EFI Previews Future of JDF Connectivity for its XF Solutions at Drupa 2008

Thursday 29. May 2008 - Seamless JDF/JMF Integration to be Demonstrated in EFI Workflow Environments

EFI (Nasdaq: EFII), the world leader in customer-focused digital printing innovation, will provide a preview of JDF/JMF connectivity with its XF solutions at this year’s drupa event. Seamless integration will be available for workflow environments between PrintSmithTM (MIS) and EFI XF products and between Digital StoreFront and XF products. It will also include connectivity between Digital StoreFront and Fiery XF with the output on EFI’s industrial inkjet printer Jetrion 4000 with EFI Print Manager. Connectivity will be available on future EFI products from Q4 2008.
Stefan Spiegel, General Manager, EFI Graphic Arts Solutions, comments: “Integrated workflow solutions are key to success in today’s competitive environment. JDF is the link that brings all EFI products together, enabling users to effectively leverage the full advantage of EFI’s competence in all areas of digital printing and print processing. A customer can initiate a print job directly from an MIS solution, such as PrintSmith, and the job will be sent to the XF product including the JDF ticket which contains all the relevant information to start the processing and printing process in XF. At the same time, the job status in XF will be communicated back to the front end system, allowing the sender to check the job status at anytime.”
EFI’s JDF Connector, an add-on module for the EFI XF server, enables JDF/JMF-based connectivity in a JDF workflow, executing the JDF of an incoming JDF job by initiating the conversion of the JDF content into XF specific code. The conversion itself is done by the
XF Server. The JDF Connector then translates the notifications sent by the XF Server back into JMF messages and sends it back to the sender of the JDF.

Spiegel continues: “JDF/JMF connectivity streamlines the workflow and significantly increases user productivity by maximising the workflow automation and providing a high level of workflow control, thus avoiding redundant process steps and saving valuable time and waste of consumables.”
Interested EFI XF resellers can receive this functionality from the Tech Support on request.
