Increased productivity and efficiency by retrofitting

Friday 23. May 2008 - The main task of slitting machines is to convert large, bulky master rolls into narrower and smaller rolls. The productivity of an application can be increased considerably by upgrading the slitting unit. As a result, costs and machine down times can be drastically reduced.

However, a system upgrade does not only bring about enormous quality and capacity increases, but also:

? speed increase
? increase of basis weight of material to be cut
? minimisation of slit width
? reduction of setup times
? higher slit width accuracy
? improvement of slitting edge quality

Depending upon the complexity of the project, it is recommended to consult a specialized com¬pany for technical support. In addition to increased productivity and improved quality there are aspects which bear an enormous potential for further improvements. After carefully evaluating all technical issues, there is, for instance, the possibility of using indi¬vidually driven bottom knife motors in conjunction with pneumatic shear cut knife holders of the latest generation. Compared to the older yet widely used multiple knife block system, the following benefits will be achieved:

? individual drives for quick format and blade changes
? edge trim chutes are automatically positioned as well
? unlike manual systems, slitting parameters, such as side load and overlap are guaranteed to be repeated
? higher production speeds are achieved
? higher accuracy of the slit width tolerances through precise knife reception

Depending upon the project size of an upgrade, the down time can be reduced to a minimum of 1-2 days. Upon completion a new era of capacity and quality can be entered. Depending on the available budget, interested companies is given the opportunity to start with a manual or semi-manual automatic positioning system to reduce setup times. As a result of the modular design, these systems can be upgraded to a fully automatic positioning system, type DIENES Module IV, according to your individual time frame.
