FZ 8E – LAST MINUTE NEWS OF MABEG & FAG

Thursday 08. May 2008 - New Opportunities Creating Value and Optimising Processes for Commercial Printers, Label Printers, Security Printers, Packaging Printers and Folding Carton Manufacturers

MABEG Modular Sheet Processor MSP on DRUPA

The base processor MABEG MSP consists of a feeder with pre-piling facilities, a process table and, depending upon customer requirements, one or two deliveries. A second delivery given, print products can be sorted or faulty sheets are separated in a second pile. MABEG MSP can process print sheets up to 83 x 104 cm at a max. speed of 12.000 s/h.

Depending upon the chosen equipment of this highly modular system, on the processing table inspection and enhancement processes of various nature can take place either as single or combined process.

At drupa MABEG will demonstrate fascinating examples for the vide variety of possible applications of this highly efficient sheet processor MABEG MSP.

The MABEG Modular Sheet Processor MSP demonstrated at the exhibition will be equipped with the following process modules:

1. Two high definition Omega Inkjet Print Heads from Atlantic Zeiser which will print fix or variable data. Applications range from encoding, personalisation, finishing and completing information in the last minute. A vide variety of standard, spot and special inks can be used, among others UV-drying inks, so that printing on non-permeable substrates becomes possible.

2. Two UV-LED-Dryers Smart Cure from Atlantic Zeiser. This latest drying technology is particularly environment-friendly, because it generates neither heat nor ozone. It is possible, therefore, to process also heat sensitive substrates.

3. Label-Applicator PAGOmat from PAGO Etikettierungssysteme. The applicator can affix labels, also critical labels such as vignettes, holograms and RFID-tags, at a high process speed with high precision.

4. The new densitometric inline colour control system SpectraScan from FAG Graphic Systems inspects and documents print quality and may also serve to sort sheets in different piles.

5. WEBTECH, a camera based system fort he inspection of the print image. Faults such as hickeys, streaks, scumming, smearing are detected reliably. Faulty sheets are, depending upon the equipment of the processor, either marked or sorted out.

6. TWIN-ICI, which is an invisible fake protection system from Jura-JSP and Weilburger Graphics. An invisible fake protection image is applied, which can be checked only using a particular light source and a special optical system. This element can be applied in connection with other applications or inspection processes in one pass or in a separate process.

What are the benefits?
Print products can be produced economically in high quantities as incomplete pre-prints. Only in the last minute before delivery the required number is sorted, completed and enhanced with current information and features required.

A couple of exampels?

– Because of changed regulations your partner in Japan requires a different text imprint concerning safety instructions. Moreover, is has become necessary to protect the package against counterfeiting. No problem with MSP, even in the last minute!

– A distributor in Indonesia has changed the logistic system and requires a different barcode and a new price imprint on the package. Non problem, MSP produces rapidly the required quantity of products.

– Quality standards have to be raised because of sharpened competition in North American markets. Moreover, a particular hologram label has to be applied from now on. No problem! Preprinted sheets are run through the MSP, the required quantity of sheets conforming to the new quality standards are equipped with the label required, the other sheets are delivered to a second pile.

“The range of applications is infinite”, says Dr. Tietze. “We open up absolutely new perspectives of flexibility and profitability for printers! Only those will be able to survive in the future who are able cope easily with rapidly changing demands of their customers, who are flexible concerning new substrates and who are able to react verbally ‘in the last minute’!”

Fine, but such a system is available only for print sheets?

“No longer! Together with our partner FAG G.S. we will introduce two brand new “sisters” of the MSP, namlely:

– FAG MBP Modular Blanks Processor
– FAG MWP Modular Web Processor.”

The underlying concept of all these modular systems is as follows: With precise register the print product passes an inspection and process table. Passing this table, various inspection- and enhancement processes can be carried out in one pass, depending upon the respective optional equipment chosen.

Three base types of “Processors”- the mechanical platform – are available. They cover practically all requirements:

• MABEG MSP for printed sheets
Entire printed sheets are transported over the inspection- and processing table of the MABEG Modular Sheet Processor MSP.

• FAG MBP for single copies or die cut blanks
Single copies or die cut blanks are handled and transported over the processing table of the FAG Modular Blanks Processor MBP. The MBP also consists of a feeder with pre pile facilities, a process table and two deliveries for sorting and separating faulty products. Products up to a size of 40 x 50 mm can be handled at a speed of up to 150 m/min.

• FAG MWP for web products
The FAG Modular Web Processor MWP consists of a reel stand, unwinding with web tension control, a process table and a winder. It can handle products with a web width of up to 300 mm, max. speed is 150 m/min.

Applications
Because single processes can be combined, the range of possible applications of the processors is very high. These highly modular systems offer suitable technical and cost effective solutions for almost all requirements.
To name only some examples for single or combined one-pass applications: Print quality inspection, character recognition and inspection, Braille inspection, imprints of spot colours, imprints of text and barcodes including UV-drying, numbering, application of labels including RFID-tags, invisible counterfeiting protection etc.
Moreover, also not paper-based substrates such as plastic or metal foils can be processed.

On drupa 2008
Exhibits of these new inspection- and enhancement-processors from MABEG and FAG you can see in the common booth of the affiliated companies in hall 9/A21.
