MIMAKI SHOWCASES NEW UV CURABLE INKJET PRINTING TECHNOLOGY AT DRUPA

Thursday 24. April 2008 - At drupa in Düsseldorf (May 29th to June 11th, 2008) Mimaki will showcase new UV curable inkjet printers using technologies based on Mimaki’s renowned expertise in the Sign / Graphics markets. The new printers consist of a roll-to-roll UV curable inkjet printer with UV LED curing technology and a single-pass high quality UV curable inkjet printer.

Mimaki Engineering, a leading manufacturer of wide format inkjet printers and cutting machines for the Sign / Graphics, Industrial markets, and Textile / Apparel, will participate at drupa in Düsseldorf (May 29th and June 11th 2008) in Hall 8B, stand number A03. Here Mimaki will unveil two new products using UV curable inkjet technology. The company is herewith responding to market demands for faster job turnaround times and short run production as well as printing on different substrates.

Among the innovations to be demonstrated is the hybrid UJV-160, a 60″ roll-to-roll large format UV curable inkjet printer. Since the printer utilises UV LED curing technology, the curing heat emitted by the UV lamps is very low. Therefore the printer can accommodate heat sensitive media, such as PVC which could not be printed upon before. Also for printing on rigid materials an optional table is available. UV LED curing technology cuts the power consumption of the printer by about one forth in comparison to conventional UV curing methods. Through elimination of ozone generation during the curing process, the technology is far more environmentally-friendly and results in far less harmful working environments for operators.

Another innovation to be exhibited and which marks Mimaki’s market entrance into label printing is a single-pass high quality UV curable inkjet printer with a print width of 30 cm suitable for printing 4 color labels. The printer named
IPH-300-L achieves a standard resolution of 600 x 600 dpi and can also be operated at a resolution of 600 x 1200 dpi for highest quality label production. Available with and without variable dot printing capabilities (four different sizes) the machine is equipped with a high speed RIP and processing features.
The new UV curable technology and further UV offerings open up new possibilities for inkjet printing, which enable printers to greatly expand their business opportunities. Through these new technologies to be unveiled at drupa, Mimaki continues to bring new digital on-demand inkjet printing solutions to market and thereby adds great value to the print industry.

Mimaki will also present their already established innovative UV curable inkjet printers, suitable for a wide range of on-demand short run production in various (industrial) markets:

UJF-605CII
The UJF-605CII UV curable inkjet printer is unique in its field, printing photorealistic quality with impressive detail (up to 1200 x 2400 dpi) on small objects for on-demand, variable short run production for various industries, such as promotional items/novelties, plastic cards, operation panels, plastic coins, small signs and much more. The UJF-605CII incorporates seven color printing, including white ink (CMYKLmLcW) plus clear coating. The white ink offers great possibilities for colored and transparent substrates. The clear spot coating gives the printed materials a high gloss finish. Since the print area is 60 x 50 cm and print quality is exceptionally high, the UJF-605CII is especially suitable for short run production of small objects.

UJF-605RII
Mimaki’s UJF-605RII has mastered the balancing act between accurate proofing on original media and reliable short run production of flexible packaging products. The UJF-605RII can proof roll-fed and sheet materials of various substrates, among them untreated plastic materials like PET, metal polycarbonates, coated and uncoated papers, soft packaging film, shrink film and PLA. But not only proofing is possible. Efficient and effective short run production of flexible packaging products will enhance the profitability of shops employing the inkjet printer. The UJF-605RII can print up to 1200 x 2400 dpi with a total of seven colors, including white. With the UJF-605RII printers can drive their overall proofing costs down while at the same time increasing their productivity and efficiency.

JF-1610
The JF (JF-1610 and JF-1631) UV curable inkjet printer series offers users the possibility of direct digital printing on large uncoated substrates, such as e.g. corrugated plastics, polyacrylics and uneven or irregular materials with resolutions of up to 1200 dpi at affordable prices. The JF series takes full advantage of its large-size flatbed and UV curable inks in order to print precise details on uncoated large-sized and thick materials. The JF series incorporates seven color printing, including white ink (CMYKLmLcW) plus clear coating. Both, JF-1631 and JF-1610, can be used for on-demand production of smaller items for various industries or jobs for larger applications, such as PoS displays. The effective maximum print area is 160 x 310 cm (JF-1631) and 160 x 100 cm on the JF-1610.

Besides the UV curable roll-to-roll inkjet printer Mimaki will also show its productive JV5-160 solvent printer for the sign market.

JV5-160S
The JV5 series is a very productive large format solvent printer family that is also available as dye sublimation version for transfer printing. The JV5-160S can print up to 1.6 m in width, with a top speed of 58 m2/h at 540 x 720 dpi in 4-color mode. The JV5 series is equipped with a nozzle check and recovery system to support continuous production. In addition to the fast drying HS ink, Mimaki will also present a newly developed eco solvent ink for its JV5 series. The JV5 series can print in 4-color or 6-color mode (CMYKLcLm).
