Sacked Printer Wins Over GBP 24k Compensation From Print Plus Boss
Friday 18. April 2008 - A printer who was sacked when his boss lost his temper has received over GBP 24,000 in compensation for unfair dismissal from Hereford based printers, Print Plus, thanks to legal support he received from Unite.
Mr Berrow, a highly skilled printer with 13 years exemplary service with Print Plus was told he was sacked following a disagreement with his boss, Mark Adcocks over the late delivery of a job. According to Mr Berrow the company had not been able to keep to the deadline due to lack of staff which Mr Adcocks had been warned about previously.
Unite is pleased with the results of the case as it shows that small companies are not exempt from employment legislation.
Unite Regional Officer, David Lewis, said: “Mr Berrow is a mild mannered man in his fifties. No one should be subjected to the shouting and physical intimidation that our member experienced from Mark Adcocks.
“The award made by the chairman of the tribunal was increased by 20 percent due to the failure of the company to use either the print industry procedures or indeed the statutory procedures. We hope this sends a message to other employers that all workers are covered by employment rights and employers cannot simply fire someone on the spot without going through proper procedures.”
