Goss International introduces new high-speed single-chopper commercial web folder

Wednesday 02. April 2008 - Unique JF-65 SQF Single Quarterfolder technology increases speed and accuracy

Goss International has introduced its new JF-65 SQF combination folder for Goss M-600 press models, offering enhanced control of signatures at higher speeds.

The Goss JF-65 SQF combination folder with one rotary chopper or quarter fold is capable of speeds up to 65,000 copies per hour with a single stream delivery for magazine and tabloid products.

Jean-Claude Pautrat, product management director at Goss International, explains the benefits of this unique technology: “Before this technical improvement, high speeds were only possible by sending consecutive copies through an upper and lower chopper. Now, through a combination of technology innovations including a new tape transport system with copy control devices, optimized chopper balancing, vacuum slow-down, enhanced guides and optimized delivery, we have been able to eliminate one chopper for a streamlined and more efficient folding operation.”

With just one chopper (or quarterfold) to adjust, the new Goss folder ensures that fold precision consistency is extremely accurate from the first copy to the last. Eliminating the necessity for two choppers additionally means less setting, easier access and less maintenance, maximizing the functionality of the M-600 press.

Additional features of the Goss JF-65 SQF folder include a web severing device for paper jams; motorized on-the-run depth and lateral adjustment of the perforation; circumferential phasing and fold lap adjustment; a three-part jaw folding cylinder to accommodate various paper stock thicknesses; and a rotary blade quarterfold assembly. Greater production flexibility is provided by the automatic product changeover capability that enables the fold to be changed in less than two minutes.

“Easy to maintain and operate and with less waste produced, this folder has been designed specifically to provide a very smooth path for ensuring high-quality final products,” concludes Pautrat. “By eliminating the second chopper we have simplified the folding process and increased production efficiency through a combination of built-in quality control and user-friendly features.”
