Julian Barnwell secures a record as the companys CD 74 is delivered
Thursday 06. March 2008 - Barnwell Print has moved to new 13,500 sq ft premises on a 1.5 acre site in Aylsham near Norwich and installed a new Speedmaster CD 74-5.
It was on the day that director Julian Barnwell set off on a gruelling 3,000 mile row across the Atlantic that the deal on the new site was completed. Brother and fellow director Lincoln Barnwell saw the deal to fruition and the transfer started before setting off to welcome Julian and his 14 crew home into Barbados. There the brothers celebrated the speed and success of the record-breaking 33 day journey in aid of the MS Society.
Barnwell Print moved from a 7,500 sq ft site to the new premises where it added some additional secondhand finishing equipment. There is still plenty of scope for growth. Other units will be built on the site (quotes are being assessed even now) but these will probably be let out to other commercial enterprises.
“The CD 74 replaces the same machine but it has the Preset Plus feeder and this is a great improvement. We knew the CD 74 and its always been productive and reliable so we wanted the same again,” says Lincoln Barnwell. “By buying new rather than transferring the older press we were able to lose two days rather than two weeks production. It took all the hassle out of moving and was better for our customers.”
Julian Barnwell is firmly back on dry land and checking all the invoices that were issued during his six week absence. Two stone lighter, he is nevertheless delighted to have made a significant contribution to the MS Society, the charity the Barnwell family continue to support, and to have achieved a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the fastest rowed Transatlantic crossing.
