International Paper (NYSE:IP) today reported a preliminary first-quarter 2010 net loss attributable to common shareholders totaling $162 million ($0.38 per share) compared with a loss of $101 million ($0.24 per share) in the fourth quarter of 2009 and net earnings of $257 million ($0.61 per share) in the first quarter of 2009. Amounts in all periods include special items.
