Biocomposites containing peat fibre for making new kinds of biodegradable products

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland has developed methods and product innovations for processing the most rapidly renewable surface layer of peat instead of using it for energy production. The goal is to develop bio-based composite materials containing peat fibre, for example for the manufacture of consumer products and construction materials, at the same time reducing the use of oil-based raw materials in production.

Full-wrap Label Consortium Addresses PET Plastic Recycle Stream Issues

To identify solutions to the recent issues surrounding polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles and full-wrap labels in the recycle stream, Eastman Chemical Company has organized a full-wrap label consortium. The group, which includes members from more than 30 companies across the value chain, is charged with digging further into the issues to better understand the problems and developing near-term and long-term solutions that will benefit all involved parties.

Huntsman Joins Coalition to Grow American Manufacturing and Jobs

Huntsman Corporation (NYSE: HUN) today announced that it has joined a coalition of U.S. manufacturers and others opposed to proposals from LNG exporters to permit the unlimited export of American natural gas. The coalition, America’s Energy Advantage, seeks to promote rational energy policies designed to use America’s newly developed shale-based low cost natural gas to provide the economic basis to spur significant new investment in American manufacturing and its related industries and services.
