UPM completes the sale of Aigrefeuille further processing mill in France to Groupe FP Bois

UPM has completed the sale of further processing business in Aigrefeuille d’Aunis, Western France, to Groupe FP Bois. UPM announced in July 2013 the conditional offer received for the Aigrefeuille mill. Altogether 38 employees of the business will transfer to the new owner. The parties have agreed not to disclose the sales price.

Resins, pigments, additives and solvents – the costs of some raw materials and components used for the printing ink industry have started to rise

For the print media business, prices for gum rosin and derivatives have gone up dramatically in the past weeks and continue to rise steeply. Price levels of over 2,500 USD/t for gum rosin have been achieved and most market partners expect continuous increases. So far, this represents a rise of more than 40 percent in the past weeks. While this trend is driven by Chinese producers, it has been mirrored in the other major supply markets Brazil and Indonesia, significantly increasing the cost in Siegwerk’s portfolio of publication gravure, heatset and coldset inks.

Reduced climate impact as Iggesund invests in biofuel

In March Iggesund Paperboard’s new biofuel boiler in Workington, England came online. By switching its energy source from fossil natural gas to biomass, the company has permanently eliminated annual fossil carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to those from more than 65,000 cars, each driven 20,000 kilometres a year. In addition to now being self-sufficient in electricity and heat, Iggesund Paperboard also expects to supply both green electricity and heat to the nearby town of Workington.
