BASF to increase prices for acrylic monomers

BASF will increase its prices for acrylic acid and acrylic esters (glacial acrylic acid; methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate), as far as existing contracts permit. This is the company’s reaction to inadequate margins. The price increases for acrylic monomers will differentiate in the regions as follows.

BASF to raise prices for two styrenic plastics types in Europe

As of April 1, 2008, BASF will be raising prices in Europe for the styrenic plastics commodity Terluran (ABS: acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer) by 70 euros per metric ton. At the same time the prices for the styrenics plastics specialty Luran (SAN: styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer) will be increased by the same amount.

UPM and Sveza Group team up to prepare a modern pulp mill project in Vologda region, Northwest Russia

Finnish forest industry group UPM and Russian Sveza Group have signed a letter of intent to form a joint venture company, and to make a final investment decision after finalising the feasibility study on a state-of-the-art forest industry facility in the Vologda region of Northwest Russia. Each party would hold 50 percent of the joint venture’s share capital.

UPM and Chempolis start technology cooperation on the production of papermaking fibre and biochemicals with a novel technology

UPM and Chempolis Oy, a Finnish technology company, have signed a licence agreement on the use of a novel biorefining technology for the production of papermaking fibre and biochemicals. Agro residues and other non-wood feedstocks, such as straw and reed can be used as raw materials for pulp and biochemicals.
