Aleris Announces Permanent Closure of Cap de la Madeleine Facility

Aleris Light Gauge Products, a business unit of Aleris International, Inc., announced today that it will be permanently closing its aluminum rolling mill facility located in Cap de la Madeleine, Quebec, following an orderly shut down of all remaining activities at the facility. All new production has already ceased. Aleris made this decision because of the permanent and irreparable damage suffered by the operations as a result of the ongoing labor issues.

Stora Enso’s associated company Veracel’s permits questioned

Stora Enso’s associated company Veracel in Brazil has received a decision issued by a federal judge in Bahia originating from a claim of 1993 in which Veracel (at that time Veracruz Florestal Ltda.) was accused of having deforested a minor area (64 hectares) of native forest in 1993.

Sun Chemical Increases Prices in Publication Market Due to Rising Raw Material and Operational Costs

Sun Chemical Europe is increasing prices in the Publication market by between 10 and 20% dependent upon the product, due to significant increases in raw material, energy and transportation costs. The increases cover Europe, Africa and the Middle East and will be implemented from August 1.
