DuPont Advances Sustainable Packaging

DuPont is expanding its DuPont Biomax packaging offerings to include renewably sourced Biomax Thermal 300 heat-stabilizing modifier that allows polylactic acid (PLA) thermoformed packaging to withstand elevated temperatures during transport, storage and use. Its introduction extends the use of PLA — a bio-based alternative to petrochemical-derived products — to applications beyond chilled foods and beverages.

Metso continues to strengthen local presence in China: new service center to be established in Shandong province

Metso will establish its third Service Center in China. The center, which will be located in Zibo, Shandong province, will provide machinery maintenance and process development services to the pulp and paper making industry in Northern China. Metso’s investment in the new center will amount to over EUR 10 million.

Dow Exploring Divestiture Options for Clear Lake Operations Acrylic Acid and Esters and North American UCAR Emulsion Systems Specialty Latex Business

The Dow Chemical Company announced today that it is exploring divestiture options for its Clear Lake Operations acrylic acid and esters, and UCAR Emulsion Systems specialty latex business in North America. Dow has engaged J.P. Morgan to act as financial adviser in support of this effort.

International Paper Announces Paper Machine Shutdown

Today, International Paper (NYSE: IP) announced plans for an indefinite shutdown of its No. 3 paper machine at the Valliant Mill in Oklahoma as of Nov. 1. This machine produces approximately 430,000 tons annually of containerboard, used to make corrugated packaging.
