Stora Enso plans permanent closure of Kopparfors Sawmill and the pellet mill to improve the profitability of its Swedish Wood Products operations

Stora Enso is planning to permanently close down Kopparfors Sawmill in Sweden by the end of 2011 due to several years of losses and no feasible options for improvement. The plan also includes closing down the pellet mill.

Eastman Chemical Company will introduce its latest product offering in the architectural paints market – Eastman Optifilm additive OT1200 – at the European Coatings Show (Nürnberg, Germany; March 29-31, 2011), Hall 9, booth 305. OT1200 additive allows formulators to significantly reduce VOC content in water-based trim and wall paints by replacing volatile glycols while improving open time and wet edge, without negatively affecting other paint properties.

PPG to acquire chlor-alkali manufacturer Equa-Chlor

PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) today announced that it has reached an agreement to purchase certain assets of Equa-Chlor, Inc., a producer of chlorine, caustic soda and muriatic acid. Equa-Chlor, a privately-held company with 65 employees, maintains its singular manufacturing site and business headquarters in Longview, Wash. The deal is expected to close during the first half of 2011, subject to normal closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed.
