Boise Cascade Holdings Reports First Quarter 2011 Financial Results

Boise Cascade Holdings, L.L.C. (BC Holdings or Company) announced a $19.0 million net loss and ending cash position of $182.8 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2011. Its wholly owned operating subsidiary, Boise Cascade, L.L.C. (Boise Cascade), reported negative first quarter earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of $5.6 million, which included $2.6 million of charges related to the curtailment of a production facility and noncash asset write-downs. Boise Cascade reported EBITDA losses of $1.8 million and $2.6 million in the first and fourth quarters of 2010, respectively.

Norske Skog – First quarter 2011: Gradual improvement for newsprint in Europe

Norske Skog’s gross operating earnings were NOK 296 million in the first quarter of 2011. When the energy segment and non-recurring items are excluded, the result is approximately unchanged from fourth quarter 2010.

M-real plans new measures to eliminate financial losses of its paper business

M-real Corporation, part of Metsäliitto Group, plans to divest the entire Gohrsmühle mill in Germany or alternatively parts of the mill separately based on a Paper Park concept. In case the divestment would turn out to be unsuccessful M-real commences a process to discontinue the uncoated fine and the unprofitable parts of the speciality paper operations at Gohrsmühle mill. Should the closures materialize Gohrsmühle mill would only produce cast coated label and packaging products (Chromolux). M-real is also planning to discontinue its remaining carbonless paper converting operations at Reflex mill in Germany.
