Earnings per share from continuing operations and before special items were $0.84, up from $0.56 in the second quarter of 2008 and $0.57 in the 2007 third quarter. Third-quarter 2008 net earnings totaled $0.35 per share, compared with net earnings of $0.54 per share in the prior quarter and $0.51 per share in the third quarter of 2007. Net sales for the quarter were $6.8 billion, versus $5.8 billion in the second quarter and $5.5 billion in the third quarter of 2007.
RockTenn today reported that its Board of Directors declared a dividend of $0.10 per share on its Class A Common Stock to shareholders of record at the close of business on November 11, 2008.
