Media General, Inc. (NYSE: MEG) today reported operating income of $11.5 million in the third quarter of 2010, compared with an operating loss of $67.7 million in the third quarter of 2009. The 2009 results included a pretax non-cash impairment charge of $84.2 million and gains of $1.9 million associated with an insurance recovery and $2 million from implementing a freeze on a retirement plan. Operating income for the third quarter of 2009, adjusted for the impairment, insurance gain and retirement plan freeze, was $12.6 million.
