Screen Hosts Inkjet Book Production Forum as Digital Printing Brings New Opportunities for Book Publishing
Tuesday 27. October 2026 - Screen Europe hosted book printers, publishers, and industry experts from across for a two-day inkjet book production forum exploring how digital inkjet printing and integrated automation are reshaping book production.
As the book manufacturing market is seeing an unprecedented shift in demand and production capabilities, Screen Europe welcomed a selected group of book printers, publishers, and industry experts from across the EMEA region to the Screen Inkjet Book Production Forum.
Held across Amsterdam and the Inkjet Innovation Center (IIC) in Aalsmeer from 14 to 15 October 2026, the forum offered a platform to explore how digital inkjet printing can help book businesses grow and diversify through automation and inkjet print production agility. The two-day programme combined expert-led sessions and keynote perspectives on the changing economics of book manufacturing with live demonstrations of Screen’s digital inkjet technology, giving guests the time and the setting to compare notes with peers from across the international book printing and publishing markets.
Live, Automated Book Printing Demonstrations
Running live in the Screen Inkjet Innovation Center throughout the event guests saw a highly automated book production workflow built around the Truepress JET 560HDX, Screen’s most advanced commercial high-speed inkjet press, taking printing files through to finished, shipping-ready books in real time.
The demonstration showed the press working with offset-class printing quality on a wider 560 mm printing width, while switching between titles and specifications without stopping the line, a capability that allows book printers to further consolidate short-run and variable work onto a single platform and profitably handle book production jobs as small as a single personalised copy with no minimum order requirement.
This level of book printing agility does not come from a single piece of equipment, but an interconnected ecosystem of integrated solutions. This is why the forum also featured presentation and equipment demonstrations from various partners including Müller Martini, Horizon, MBO Komori Group, Tecnau, and Matti Technology AG, to present how through thorough and highly intricate bidirectional communication facilitated by Screen’s proprietary workflow software EQUIOS more tasks can be automated, improving production speeds and minimising human error to support additional complexity without additional overhead.
For business owners and production managers working with the reality of supplying books to a market where expectations are increasingly defined by the instant gratification of online platforms, seeing the flexibility of a complete digital book printing workflow that does not come at the expense of quality illustrated how inkjet printing is opening new avenues for commercially viable short-run book production.
A Clear Direction for the Book Printing Sector
The event confirmed a clear direction of travel for the role that digital inkjet is set to play in book manufacturing, moving it from a strategic consideration to a practical priority for businesses navigating a market in structural change. Just as importantly, the forum offered a platform for open discussion about the realities of adopting digital production.
With its combination of expert insight, live demonstration, and peer exchange, the Screen Inkjet Book Production Forum reinforced Screen Europe’s commitment to supporting book printers and publishers as they build more resilient, more profitable, and more adaptable operations for the future of books.
