School graduation in the bag. And what comes next?
Thursday 02. February 2023 - There is a great deal of uncertainty among Generation Z. Career and study orientation are already a major challenge in normal times, but when a pandemic, climate crisis, and political tensions are added to the mix, the challenge quickly becomes too much.
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG) would like to provide answers to the question of what follows after leaving school at its open day under the motto “Training live” at the Training Center at the Wiesloch-Walldorf site. In the morning from 10:00 to 13:00, trainees, students and trainers will be on hand to answer questions from interested parties. You can find out about the entire range of training and study programs and look over the trainees’ shoulders as they go about their work.
“The general conditions for school leavers are particularly good today. The baby boomers are gradually retiring and making room for the next generation. Today’s job opportunities are therefore excellent,” says Andreas Blum, Head of Vocational Training at the Wiesloch-Walldorf site. “We want to accompany and support young people on the path to their professional future. Only by continuing to meet the demand for skilled workers can we ensure economic progress, prosperity and social security.”
Pupils in their final years are invited, as are parents and teachers. Parents are still the first and most important point of contact for young people when it comes to career guidance. They can experience the atmosphere at the training center firsthand and talk to trainees, students and training staff. An information forum provides information about requirements and prospects and offers plenty of space to answer open questions.
Internships as an entry-level option
Probably the best means of orientation is an internship. At this stage, you can already present yourself as a future apprentice. This, in turn, is also a huge opportunity for companies. In the best case, a committed student can be recruited for an apprenticeship during the internship – a real win-win situation. At HEIDELBERG, internships are possible all year round, except for a few weeks. Information on this can be found on the Internet at www.heidelberg.com/karriere. You can also get a real insight into day-to-day training on Instagram at heidelbergerdruck_azubis and on the YouTube channel Heidelbergdruck-Azubis.
Application phase for the 2023 training year is already underway
HEIDELBERG currently employs around 350 trainees and dual students at all four of the company’s sites in Germany, around 75 percent of them at the largest site in Wiesloch-Walldorf. The application phase for an apprenticeship or degree program starting in September 2023 is already in full swing. School grades are not the only deciding factor for an apprenticeship position at HEIDELBERG. The social skills of the applicants, their personality and their attitude towards the profession are just as important. All information about vocational training at HEIDELBERG and the career portal can be found on the company’s website.
