tea amo meets LUMAFIN: A story with heart

Friday 09. September 2022 - A still young brand - tea amo - sets out to conquer the world of gastronomy with surprising new iced teas. Ten flavours, made with love and marketed with heart. Literally. Case study on the decorative refinement of a label design in the beverage industry

The founders of the Stuttgart-based company are passionate about their product – and wanted to express this with the design of the label. The hearts depicted on it, which are in the colours of the fruit components used in each case, were to be impressively staged with the help of an additional decoration. The challenge: The effect was not allowed to change the design and should be rather subtle.
The ambitious project was realised in cooperation with several strong partners:
Goelz-Druck
Goelz-Druck GmbH, founded in 1925, is one of the leading manufacturers of labels for the beverage and food industry.
RBS
RBS Druckveredelungs GmbH Süßen was founded in 1997 and specialises in embossed foil printing in various types of embossing.
The aim
The label design around the coloured hearts should be visually supported and become a real highlight. “It was important to us to make the label something special without changing our basic idea. But simply applying a spot varnish didn’t seem enough,” explains Panagiotis Karastergios from tea amo.
Something more noble was needed. A decoration that perfectly captures the fresh character of the young product and at the same time adds discreet highlights. Together with the label manufacturer Goelz-Druck and the finishing company RBS, the team went on a search – and was successful.
The solution
The unique, aluminium-free LUMAFIN hot-stamping finish from LEONHARD KURZ hit the spot and fulfilled all the expectations of the creative team. The translucent formulation makes the colours shine in new splendour and gives the underprinted design fascinating optical depth. Panagiotis Karastergios enthuses:
“The hearts on the label appear as if behind glass and always look different due to the iridescent effect. This whets the appetite for our iced teas right from the label.”

Why SHORT?
“A product like LUMAFIN is so far unique in the finishing industry and provides extraordinary and sometimes unexpected effects”,
RBS Managing Director Andreas Bieser explains. “Regardless of whether I want to add strong colour accents or just a slight shimmer to the surface – LUMAFIN is very versatile in that respect.”
KURZ always wants to offer its customers something new. The expert for decorative and functional surfaces is therefore constantly expanding its colour and effect portfolio. Whether new trend colours, a variety of metallic decors or impressive holographic effects – KURZ leaves hardly any finishing wishes unfulfilled.
“We are constantly reinventing ourselves. On the one hand, we always want to offer our customers something new, but on the other hand it is also important to us to simplify and optimise their processes,” says Stéphane Royère, Head of Business Area Packaging and Print at LEONHARD KURZ. And he continues: “Whether with new, versatile product qualities, complete solution packages or digital machine systems. But we are also constantly expanding our portfolio of colours and effects, so that there are hardly any finishing wishes left unfulfilled. And finishing and sustainability are not at odds with each other, because only the thinnest layers of coating are transferred in our transfer process, and no PET.”
