BOBST is leading innovation with a clear vision built on four key pillars, digitalization, automation, connectivity, and sustainability. Its oneLABEL portfolio, with digital inkjet as a central component, allows customers to address the widest spectrum of markets.
Introducing BOBST digital inkjet printing to Brazil
With the Brazilian market ripe for development, BOBST has introduced the LB701-UV and LB702-UV digital inkjet label presses as the answer to the market demand for high-quality full color labels in smaller print runs with short lead times at competitive costs. According to Bobst Latinoamerica do Sul Managing Director, Eduardo Petroni, the answer to the many challenges in the sector is to invest in digital inkjet printing technology.
“It is clear that the industry is eager for new players, especially those with new technologies, and that is precisely what BOBST has brought to Brazil. The reception here has been overwhelming. We’ve already had more than 40 large and medium-sized customers visiting our Demo Center in Itatiba-SP to evaluate the digital inkjet technology,” he explains.
Mr Petroni also believes that the new label presses will not replace flexo but instead, work as a complement to the existing technologies. “With digital printing equipment, our customers will have in their hands the opportunity to offer customers a wider range of services. And they will be able to decide what is best suited for the need they have now, being able to balance quality, time and costs, and decide what will be the best option for that specific application,” he says.
Certification of local substrates
Before bringing the LB701-UV and LB702-UV digital inkjet presses to the Brazilian market, BOBST ran rigorous tests to approve locally produced substrates. The certification of local materials suppliers has been a fundamental step in the development of BOBST digital inkjet technology in the region, as it avoids that customers have to import substrates, which can be problematic and costly, explains BOBST label application specialist, Thiago Consales.
He adds, “Before the machines were available in Brazil, we selected the most used substrates in the local market and shipped them to our headquarters in Switzerland for testing. These tests were very successful, so when the LB702-UV press arrived here, we replicated the tests to confirm the results. Today, we have approved all the main national suppliers,” says Consales.
The most complete solution for converters
To choose the right partner, Brazilian converters should take a holistic approach and look beyond the machine itself to assess all after-sales services, maintenance plans, spare parts and consumables availability, among other, before investing.
BOBST’s 130 years of experience working closely with some of the world’s best known converters is the foundation behind everything the company offers in labels and packaging. Gustavo Guerreiro, Director of Services and Performance, Bobst Latinoamerica do Sul, says, “BOBST provides a competitive solution with a complete portfolio of services – we don’t just deliver and install a press. We support the customer to ensure high-quality production, maximum machine availability, with cost efficiency and competitiveness.”
Moreover, Mr Guerreiro states that as well as the wealth of knowledge and experience, the passion is a main differentiator of BOBST experts and professionals. “What moves us in everything we do is passion. If we didn’t have that spark in our eyes, we couldn’t deliver the best for our clients.”
To sum up, the proposition from BOBST in labels is a comprehensive offering that can be adapted to fit customers’ individual business models and optimize their production floor.
Mr Petroni concludes, “BOBST combination of high-tech products, highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals in digital technology applied to labels, a robust infrastructure that supports after-sales service, a significant inventory of parts and consumables, and mainly, the know-how to understand the packaging market as a whole, allows us to offer the best cost-benefit for the Brazilian market and globally.”
