Quality control made simple

Wednesday 26. January 2022 - ADAMS Sp. z o.o. in Baranw near Pozna, are specialists in design, production and sales of corrugated cardboard packaging. They have for years been basing their production processes on solutions provided by BOBST.

A new important support for their printing and finishing machines is the BOBST Digital Inspection Table (DIT), thanks to which the customer can control that each package that leaves the printing line meets their expectations. “I saw the DIT for the first time during the BOBST Open House and I immediately said that no matter which BOBST machine we buy, I must have this table for my employees, because I couldn’t dream of a better quality-control tool”, says Anna Skrzyniarz, who since 1995 has been managing the company together with her husband Adam Skrzyniarz.
The Digital Inspection Table is another innovative technology from BOBST to increase efficiency and practically eliminate production errors in printing. It provides digital projection to validate printed sheets and die-cut blanks by real-time visual representation to match the product with digital proofing. HD projectors project the graphics in scale 1:1 on the printed sheet, enabling the operator to easily check if the graphics are 100% consistent with the print. As the packaging manufacturer also argues, the device provides unmatched accuracy and efficiency in the field of proofing and quality control for the packaging production.
“The operators of the Digital Inspection Table appreciate the extraordinary ease of use. Graphic files displayed on the table can be supplemented with additional information drawing attention to sensitive elements that should be carefully verified, explains Szymon Lacki, production preparation specialist at ADAMS. An additional advantage of the table is the ability to measure the so-called cardboard warp. In theory, the sheet is as flat as the table on which it is placed, but in practice, it may deform under the influence of moisture or storage conditions in the warehouse. We automatically check the quality of the sheets and if the acceptable standards are not met, we have the proof for complaint to the supplier of the raw material.”
The standard format Digital Inspection Table for corrugated board handles sheets up to 2100×1300 mm, combining quality with simplicity that is synonymous with BOBST’s existing range of products and services. Before the purchase of the inspection table, the quality control process at ADAMS took longer: if the operator wanted to check the printed sheet with the artwork, he had to find an overlay. The overlay is a dimensional grid or design printed on foil, then place the print under the layover and display the graphics on the computer monitor. Then visually compare the original with the printout by looking at the monitor and compare with the sheet.
“When there are many minor differences, it is difficult and time-consuming and it could lead to errors and complaints”, continues Szymon Lacki. “When using the DIT, the process is 2-3 times faster, because the operator can see the original and the superimposed printout and any inconsistency is immediately spotted.” Only a short time after the purchase of the DIT the ADAMS company was convinced of the table’s numerous advantages. For example costly customer complaints are reduced, the efficiency and reliability of the operator’s work and process organization are improved, and thanks to the automated reporting and digital monitoring, customer confidence increases. “In absolute numbers, this translates into 37% less error reports and 75% fewer customer complaints”, emphasizes Lacki.
“Winning and maintaining the trust of customers is a value worth every investment in the modern competitive printing market. And this is the answer to the question why the DIT is so important to us”, says Adam Skrzyniarz the owner of ADAMS. “Because the DIT not only gives us control, so that we can guarantee a consistent quality of our products, but above all it shows customers that we are really in control. This table perfectly meets the needs of the market and I believe that it should be present in every printing house”, sums up Mr Skrzyniarz.
