Gleitsmann Security Inks announces launch of mouveGSI security feature and 175th anniversary

Friday 17. December 2021 - Under UV light, the security ink shows a colour transition and a green afterglow effect when the light source is switched off. This traffic light effect can be checked with existing tools and sensors. An Asian banknote customer is already using mouveGSI successfully.

Checking banknotes and other secure documents more easily – that’s possible with the innovative security feature mouveGSI from Gleitsmann Security Inks (GSI), a subsidiary of hubergroup.
To achieve this extraordinary effect with a single colour, GSI uses proprietary know-how developed in less than a year with its partner Leuchtstoffwerk Breitungen (LWB), a German-based manufacturer of phosphors, speciality chemicals and unique pigment types. The traffic light effect combines proven UV imaging with phosphorescence and a moving effect of colour changes (red, yellow, green) that was previously unknown in the industry. The feature can be verified by police officers, retailers, banknote experts and sorters using existing equipment or sensors.
As a specialist in high-security inks, the Berlin-based company supplies various government and commercial security printers worldwide. Since 1976, the company has been part of the international printing ink and special chemicals manufacturer hubergroup and will celebrate its 175th anniversary next year together with the parent company.
Heiner Klokkers, the hubergroup’s CEO, says: “I am very proud of the development of our speciality unit GSI. After a record year in 2020, the company will reach another all-time high in sales in 2021. mouveGSI is an outstanding security feature that is already being used by an Asian banknote customer just a few months after its launch. At the moment, I am working with GSI’s management team to define the next strategic initiatives that will ensure a continuation of GSI’s solid growth strategy as a highly profitable part of hubergroup. I look forward to celebrating GSI’s 175th anniversary with its customers, partners and employees next year.”
At its Berlin location, GSI employs 75 highly qualified staff, physicists, chemists as well as commercial specialists, and generates an annual turnover in the double-digit million range.
