Oscar Mahl GmbH & Co. KG invests in HP Indigo 6900 for its 100th anniversary

Wednesday 05. February 2020 - Just in time for the 100th anniversary of the family-owned printing company, Oscar Mahl GmbH & Co. KG is expanding its machine park with a latest-generation HP Indigo 6900 to respond to changing customer requirements. The family-owned company from Schwäbisch Hall, now in its fourth generation, focuses on the printing of self-adhesive labels as well as business and advertising material. A further focus is on specialization and finishing.

“The main pillar of our company is the production of roll adhesive labels. Our customers have always relied on our quality. However, this alone is no longer sufficient today. The increasing variety of types and shorter product life cycles are driving run lengths down. The cycle time with which we produce today is much faster than a few years ago. The first one to hit the shelves is practically the winner. We can only master these challenges with digital printing,” explains Erwin Oscar Mahl, Managing Director of Druckerei Oscar Mahl GmbH & Co. KG.
After a thorough review of various printing systems, the decision was finally made in favour of the HP Indigo 6900: “The variety of substrates that can be processed with the inline printing solution tipped the scales in our favour,” says Mahl. The digital press enables printing on plastic and paper substrates in various thicknesses and on eco-certified materials. Individual, personalised or tamper-proof labels with consecutive numbers, QR codes and other security features can also be produced easily and cost-effectively with the HP Indigo.
In addition, the displayable colour space was another important decision criterion. The seven-colour printing capabilities of the HP Indigo 6900 enable a wide range of digital colours, including metallic colours, to be printed on a wide variety of substrates. The transparent click-cost model, which offers maximum planning and calculation capabilities, and the sustainability of the HP Indigo compared to conventional presses were also positively evaluated. For example, the HP Indigo 6900 saves large quantities of printing plates, water for washing out the plates, waste for press setup and printing inks. The CO2-neutral press also has significantly lower energy consumption.
“With the new installation, we can not only react faster, but also much more flexibly. Furthermore, our customers see no difference in quality between analog and digitally printed labels. The HP Indigo 6900 is the reference in the market and therefore a safe bet for us,” said Mahl.
