Focus on shorter makeready times and new options in quality assurance

Monday 02. September 2019 - BST eltromat and Nyquist Systems present first results of cooperation with HYBRID Software for quality assurance in narrow web production processes

At this year’s LABELEXPO EUROPE (23 – 27 September in Brussels) BST eltromat International and Nyquist Systems present new possibilities for web inspection and 100% inspection with the systems of the TubeScan family. Nyquist Systems has been part of the BST group of companies since the beginning of 2019. Under the slogan “perfecting your performance”, BST eltromat and Nyquist Systems will be presenting the results of their cooperation with HYBRID Software, a leading global provider of innovative solutions for PDF-based prepress workflows and MIS (Management Information Systems), among other things, at the two exhibition stands in Hall 5 (Stand D23 and E05).
Thanks to this cooperation, makeready processes, including quality assurance, in label printing, for example, can be significantly simplified and shortened. Visitors to Brussels will also see the latest options for the QLink workflow, which integrates quality assurance in prepress, press and packaging. At the Nyquist booth, more in-depth technical options and features for the TubeScan product portfolio will be shown, while BST eltromat will present its entire portfolio for quality assurance in narrow web processes – from web run control and register control to web monitoring, color management, color measurement and workflow solutions – in addition to 100% inspection.
“At LABELEXPO EUROPE, we want to discuss individual requirements with customers and interested parties in detail and show them the latest possibilities for quality assurance,” says Nyquist Systems Managing Director Dr. Stephan Krebs, inviting visitors to the trade fair to intensive discussions on the latest trends in the manufacture of labels and packaging with narrow web production systems. “In addition to the production of print products with consistently high quality, central topics will include the integrated networking and automation of the machines and systems involved in manufacturing processes in the sense of Industry 4.0.”
Close cooperation with HYBRID Software has resulted, for example, in the new option of PDF comparison of print jobs directly in printing presses. It enables machine operators to ensure that their printing systems produce perfect quality right from the start quickly and easily. Gone are the days when press operators had to scan press proofs and then compare them with prepress specifications. Both the paths to the scanner and the working times for this process step are eliminated. Label manufacturers are faster than ever at printing and reduce their waste at the same time. This is possible because the prepress department uses PACKZ from HYBRID software to create PDF files for the print jobs that contain all relevant parameters, including the requirements for inspecting the jobs to be printed. This applies, among other things, to the length of the reports, the distribution of the labels or the definition of the inspection zones. The prepress stage can define the inspection requirements in the individual zones in different stringent ways. In this way, selected zones can be inspected more intensively than less critical zones. A highlight: all objects can be dynamic, i.e. variable data such as different barcodes or alphanumeric – also randomized – number sequences. The actual print results are compared with the specifications from the PDF files during the makeready process in the presses and corrected by the press operators if necessary. Nyquist Systems will be demonstrating these possibilities at LABELEXPO EUROPE with a workstation and a bidirectional packaging machine that meets the requirements of the pharmaceutical industry.
The latest version of the QLink workflow and the TubeScan systems will be presented live on rewinders at both booths. Among other things, the integration with ERP systems of customers, the extended possibilities of the new area scan cameras with a high resolution of 4k and the new lighting option Contour Light are central topics. This laterally directed light source makes it possible, for example, to make the outlines of clear labels on paper or plastic substrates visible. In addition to the new contour light, the TubeScan portfolio with diffuse standard backlighting, backlighting through the web and UV illumination for security features, among other things, includes three additional independent light sources that cover a large number of different requirements for web inspection and 100% inspection.
“Thanks to the integration into the BST group of companies, Nyquist Systems has expanded its resources to continuously develop the TubeScan portfolio together with BST eltromat. This results in new possibilities for our customers to optimize their production and to cover the latest requirements of their customers with foresighted solutions for quality assurance. This is also a message we want to convey on our two stands at this year’s LABELEXPO EUROPE”, explains BST eltromat marketing manager Anne-Laureen Lauven.
