The Vareo Comes Into Its Own

Friday 25. November 2016 - The Vareo perfect binder is ideally suited to the product range of the German company DATEV.

The IT business, which is based in Nuremberg, has an in-house printing plant and bookbindery and produces some 1.1 billion print pages each year. Those are typically personalized softcover products in lot sizes of one. They are digitally printed and then finished using the Vareo – a technological development that perfectly suits the pioneer in this market segment, since digital systems greatly simplify the industrial printing of runs of one copy. The decision to invest in the Vareo to replace three ultra-small perfect binders from another manufacturer has proven to be an excellent one

DATEV produces several thousand products in runs of one copy each year (pictured is machine operator Martino Gallone).
The main reason for the investment was the fact that the Vareo’s high degree of automation relieves operators from having to perform frequent changeovers. “We’ve been able to reduce our lead times significantly,” says Robert Gebhard, Head of the Design and Dispatch Service Team at DATEV. The Vareo technology has great potential and allows DATEV to create new softcover products for its customers.

The Vareo is the optimal answer to the job structure of the Nuremberg-based company – each year it produces thousands of products in runs of one copy, all consisting of single sheets, mostly in A4 size. The book thickness is typically between 15 and 20 millimeters, but can be as much as 60 millimeters. Since each of the Vareo’s three clamps is equipped with its own servo motor and independently driven, all processing steps can be individually adjusted to the different thicknesses of the products. The central setup wizard and the integrated size and book thickness measurement station ensure a high level of productivity.
