Discovery Print Data Validation (PDV) Controller provides integrity for large scale variable data printing.

Monday 01. December 2014 - High speed, wide format digital print technology is helping satisfy the market demands for intelligent print featuring huge amounts of personalised, unique and variable data. Personalised documents, track and trace labels, security print, tax stamps, gaming, lottery and phone/scratch cards are pushing the production and process boundaries, with speed, data content and complexity.

A critical aspect of the production process is the inspection, validation and verification of the data being printed. Errors can occur in all areas of the print process, from print engines loosing synchronisation to the inevitable human error. The new Discovery PDV Controller in combination with Discovery MultiScan can read every field of variable data in a print run, and compare back to the original file. It can confirm that the correct print file is running and that each field of data within each data record is correct. Poor quality print and incorrect print data can be identified, and an alarm condition can be used to alert the press operator, mark the web, divert the sheet or stop the process.
Proven at reading up to 400 fields of data per web repeat, at speeds in excess of 300m/min, Discovery MultiScan and PDV controller can provide complete quality and integrity confidence for the most complex of variable data print runs. By instantly identifying errors, waste is also reduced to a minimum, supporting waste reduction and continual improvement programmes.
Whilst ever evolving digital print technology grabs the headlines, integrity inspection is becoming an increasingly critical part of the equation. Return on investment can be incredibly quick when factoring in the liability issues of incorrect print data, along with the cost of waste stock and ink.
