Leicester College upgrade to Navigator v10 64 bit RIP

Monday 08. September 2014 - The world leading Xitron Navigator v10 64 bit RIP is being put through its paces at Leicester College by the print apprentices and learners.

Xitron, a leading developer of open prepress workflow systems, announces that Navigator version 10 RIP and Workflow based on Harlequin RIP core technology is an integral part of the print production at Leicester College.
Navigator v10 gives the College the ability to run in true 64bit mode on a 64bit OS. The RIP can access much more RAM speeding up the process considerably. By upgrading the RIP to Navigator v10 it will harness of the power of the new Windows 8 64 bit PC.
Leicester College is one of the largest Further Education Colleges in the UK with more than 28,800 learners. Keeping their printing equipment up to date is very important to the College and Mat Poynton, Production Unit Supervisor of the Print Department said “It is a fantastic asset to the College to be able to utilise the updated Xitron computer to plate system. The College prides itself on delivering industry standard training facilities for our learners and apprentices, and it is relationships such as our one with Xitron which enables us to do so – Thank you.”
The Colleges delivers training from apprenticeships through to bespoke printing courses specifically for print industry professionals. The Print Production department at the College has the complete range of pre-press equipment, screen printing, one 2 Colour QuickMaster and a 5 colour Heidelberg SM52 presses and a wide range of finishing equipment.
Previously the RIP at the College was running on a Windows XP machine which is no longer being supported by Microsoft. Although at Leicester College the Harlequin RIP is working with a HighWater Python, Xitron is pleased to have been able to upgrade the Navigator/Torrent RIP and the workflow software to the current versions.
Xitron’s Navigator Workflow helps prepress operators increase productivity, manage workflow, and reduce costs. An intuitive interface allows operators to manage their work from a Windows or Macintosh workstation, while directing output production through one or more Harlequin RIPs.
Optional workflow modules allow the Navigator Workflow to create and preflight PDFs; perform ink remapping; and support ROOM proofing to any Xitron and most third-party proofing solution. The Navigator Workflow also offers ink key presetting capabilities with KeySetter, a series of pressroom workflow solutions to connect the prepress department and pressroom together.
Sue Wood, Dealer Sales Manager for Xitron Europe said: “I am extremely pleased that we have been able to bring Leicester College right up to date with the latest Navigator RIP and workflow software. Xitron is the only authorized source for RIP upgrades for GIT Graphics Pro (Graphics Integration Technology) Harlequin RIP, GIL (Graphics Integration Limited) Harlequin RIP, Xitron Navigator RIP, Xitron Navigator Workflow, Navigator Elite Workflow and the HighWater Torrent Harlequin RIP. I can also provide RIP upgrades for the Heidelberg Harlequin RIP, Ultre Harlequin RIP, UltreRIP and many other Harlequin RIP and Harlequin RIP workflows but there are some restrictions.”
