Tau 330 now with “High Definition” print mode and Low Migration UV Inkjet Inks

Tuesday 13. May 2014 - Durst, the industrial inkjet specialist, expands the application fields of the Tau 330 digital UV inkjet print system for the food industry and fully automated industrial production. After a successful market launch in early 2013 followed by over 20 installations worldwide, Durst will demonstrate the full range of applications of Tau 330 at the Interpack trade-fair in Du?sseldorf from May 8-14 at Booth 13D73.

“High Definition” Print Mode for reproduction of finest details
Tau 330 now offers a new high definition print mode with print resolutions up to 720 x 1080 dpi. This new production mode, improves the print quality significantly, providing outstanding sharp texts and fine details in graphics and images.
Low Migration UV Inks for Primary Food Packaging
Tau 330 can now be equipped with the new Tau Low Migration UV Inks from SUNJET to print primary food packaging. The Tau Low Migration ink components meet all the guidelines of the European Printing Ink Association (EUPIA) and the Swiss Ordnance on Materials & Articles legislation and do not utilize materials specifically excluded on the Nestlé Packaging Inks Specification. The Durst Tau 330 together with this ink will expand the range of suitable applications for unsupported foils, such as blister packs, yogurt lids and many more. For this type of materials, Tau 330 is now available with a built-in Chill Roller to cool down the temperature of printed films and foils during the curing process. Additionally, the newly built-in inert-gas system reduces the typical odor of UV inkjet inks, to meet the requirement in the food and pharmaceutical sector for Low Odor printing.
Depending on type of application, Tau 330 users may now choose from 2 different Tau UV inkjet inks:
The standard UV Inkjet Inks for all industrial applications or the very new Low Migration UV Inkjet inks suitable for food, healthcare and pharmaceutical applications.
Enhanced Productivity with Digital End-to-End Workflow
To enhance the productivity with a complete digital end-to-end workflow, Durst is presenting a new in-line digital laser finishing system, that incorporates state of the art laser die cutting technology from Spartanics, with a powerful 1000 watt laser for highest productivity and automatic job changeover to handle multiple jobs in a single run. The die file is generated automatically by the DFE software and downloaded simultaneously with the files for printing directly to the Laser Finishing System and a barcode that is printed with the job is automatically read and retrieves the correct die file where it then automatically starts die cutting the appropriate job. For a complete finishing process, optional UV coating and lamination can be added.
Broader range of applications and volumes
To increase the print quality, reliability and production security, the Tau 330 can be equipped in addition with a built-into the press high-resolution Video Inspection System from NIKKA for automatic detection of print defects during printing. To extend its modularity even further, Tau 330 can be equipped with external unwinder and rewinder units for printing big rolls and volumes as well as other finishing systems, to integrate Tau 330 in any existing production line. The specially designed connection box collects all related signals and synchronizes them with external devices.
Tau 330
With over 20 installations during 2013, Tau 330 sets new standards in digital UV inkjet label and package printing. Using Xaar 1001 single pass print heads, the system features a maximum print width of 330 mm and a printing speed of max. 48 linear meters (157 ft.) per minute, thereby reaching an industry-leading hourly production capacity of 950 m².
