San Francisco Chronicle migrates NEWSCYCLE Circulation to the Cloud for a cost-effective future

Tuesday 11. March 2014 - Hearst's San Francisco property covers the Bay Area through NEWSCYCLE Cloud

NEWSCYCLE Solutions (NEWSCYCLE) has signed a long-term agreement with the San Francisco Chronicle in San Francisco, CA, a division of Hearst Communications, Inc., to migrate their existing on-premises NEWSCYCLE Circulation system to the company’s hosted cloud platform. The newspaper serves the San Francisco Bay Area and is also distributed throughout Northern and Central California.
The San Francisco Chronicle made the strategic decision to move to NEWSCYCLE’s cloud environment for the scalability, and the proven and reliable technology the platform provides. The San Francisco Chronicle’s information and applications will be protected in a tremendously redundant data center—featuring massive bandwidth and the highest level of network availability in the news media industry.
“We are a long-time circulation customer and NEWSCYCLE’s cloud-hosting is a progressive move forward for us. We know it is stable, and able to handle our size of installation where others can’t,” said Melorie Acevedo, vice president of Information Services, San Francisco Chronicle. “We have ever-changing and complex needs and we need a flexible and powerful system—and it should be easy to use to accomplish our goals. A more cost-effective future is a huge advantage. We no longer need to support servers or handle hardware changes and don’t have to budget in costly on-premises upgrades. Always having the latest version of the circulation software is such a bonus for us.”
With their circulation software in NEWSCYCLE’s cloud platform, the San Francisco Chronicle will benefit immediately from lower operational costs, tier-4 data security, and automatic upgrades. Also, NEWSCYCLE has the unique ability to deliver a PCI compliant circulation system based on industry standards and best-practices. It is critical for the San Francisco Chronicle to remain compliant and current with the latest audited circulation rules and reporting through Alliance for Audited Media.
“The San Francisco Chronicle is an innovative and trailblazing newspaper, and they need the flexibility and automatic upgrades having their circulation system in the cloud provides,” said Randal Meske, NEWSCYCLE’s vice president of Sales, Americas. “The scalability of the installation exploits the strength and power of the software.”
Migrating to NEWSCYCLE’s cloud platform also allows the San Francisco Chronicle to proactively focus on exploring new revenue streams, and audience engagement and retention plans instead of responding to the constant needs of on-premises hardware and support.
