Mimaki Engineering Co., Ltd. (President: Hisayuki Kobayashi, Headquarters: Nagano, Japan), a leading manufacturer of wide format inkjet printers, is today pleased to introduce the JFX500-2131, a Large Format UV LED Flatbed Inkjet Printer which achieves the maximum speed of 60?/h (2.5 times faster than that of conventional JFX plus series) for the sign & graphics industry and wide format display marketplace.
The printer shipment is expected to be released on September 2012.

1. Maximum print speed of 60 ?/h while at the same time achieving 45 ?/h for white ink printing.
– Newly developed piezo print head design
Equipped with the new developed print head (6 print heads with 3 staggered configuration), the “JFX500-2131” achieves print speed up to 60 ?/h with CMYK, while at the same time
keeping 45 ?/h for white ink printing.
*1 1,280 nozzles per head (320 nozzles x 4 lines), total 7,680 nozzles (1,280 nozzles x 6 print heads)
– Newly developed high-speed UV ink: LUS-150 (*2)
LUS-150, is a newly formulated LED curing ink with high speed curing properties. This ink offers improved curing times resulting in a less tactile sticky feeling. This ink is flexible up to 150% (*3) resulting in increased elasticity and bending performance on wide variety of media and substrates without cracking and fracturing the cured ink during handling or cutting methods.
Mimaki also offers a more rigid type ink formulation for printing on more stiff and hard surfaces requiring greater adhesion properties on these types of substrates.

– Newly developed UV LED unit
The New UV LED unit is optimized and the curing efficiency of LED (which has been a concern) is improved enough to cure the ink. High speed UV printing is available with all the advantages of LED technology, such as long-life, energy savings, lower heat generation, cheaper media’s and being able to print on media which is easily deformed or discolored by heat.
2. A 2pt character scale size is possible while printing with a 4pl variable drop for
precise and accurate text printing.
2 units of Mimaki’s unique highly-accurate linear scales controlled by IMS (*5) have been equipped, for fine step accuracy and dot placement. This results in far less banding artifacts and even the possibility to print legible 2 pt characters (*6).
Variable drops function provides 3 different drop sizes at once. The minimum size is amazingly 4 pico-litter drop and produces a smooth and natural gradation, without granular appearance even in the 4-color mode.
Mimaki’s proprietary head control technology delivers unrivaled high definition & high resolution prints.

3. MAPS – A mask pattern that effectively reduces bandings – has been equipped.
The JFX500-2131 equipped with a mask pattern. In addition to the normal pattern, you can select “MAPS (*7)” that effectively reduces bandings. MAPS implements printing with multiple passes, using a gradational mask pattern, the UV curing is performed more gradually and it diminishes the appearance of bandings.

When MAPS is selected, print speeds are reduced by about 10 %.
4. Advanced functions that enhance operation stability
– Ink circulation, ecology & economy with the application of white ink
MCT (*8) to regularly circulate white ink is standard equipment. It enables a stable output from the time of machine startup by effectively avoiding the settling of white pigment in the ink lines.
Additionally, MCT contributes to reduction of ink waste, thereby supporting environmentally and economically friendly applications.
*8 MCT = Mimaki Circulation Technology. MCT works only with white ink.
– Ink degassing module enhances inkjet-ability and reduces ink costs.
The Mimaki degassing module “MDM(*8)” eliminates the gasses or bubbles inside the ink. This means nozzle blockage is lessened and the accuracy of ink dot placement is improved.
In addition, this module enables the printer to use undegassed bottled inks instead of conventional degassed ink packs, thereby reducing ink costs.

5. Highly refined environmentally friendly functions
– UV curing printing is an ecological printing method that minimizes VOCs.
– The curing efficiency of the newly developed UV LED unit has been improved compared to that of the conventional one. It is powerful and reduces power consumption while offering much longer life cycles and increased operability.
– Every UV ink is supplied in 2L bottles. This ecological and economical ink package contributes to reduce amount of industrial waste and running cost.
6. Various functions developed from users’ perspective
– Layout pins that eliminate annoying aligning setup
When setting a substrate template on a flatbed, strict alignment had been required to check whether the media is not in-line with the printing surface, or whether the point of origin is aligned, etc.
This machine is equipped with pins and a scale to eliminate such annoying alignment procedures. You fix the substrate to the pins and check the placement with the scale at first and then edit the design data or printer settings accordingly. In this way, you can implement direct UV printing without misalignment.
– Reverse Print Function
Select the order of over- and under-print with white in RasterLink6, the bundled standard software RIP. The most efficient path is then determined by the software.
Operators experience efficient high productivity gains without further operator intervention.
– Nozzle Recovery Function
Even if nozzle washing has no effect on a troubled nozzle, the print image quality can be retained temporarily. During this nozzle downtime the printer continues to produce high quality prints until the Mimaki service team arrives.
*10 Nozzle Recovery Function is a temporary failure averting function and its recoverability is limited.
7. Software RIP “Raster Link 6” is bundled for ease of use and operator understanding

The new RasterLink6 is focused on being simple and friendly. With its many new functions, the “Software RIP for Everybody” has been achieved and provides for more professional and advanced finished products through its universal accessibility.
– 3-layer Print Function
3-layer print of color, white and color can be performed at the same time. The underlay printing of a base layer of white ink reproduces the natural beauty of process colors printed on transparent substrates with high precision and no multi-pass color registration shift.
– Equipped with imprinting function which supports variable data
Using a list created by Microsoft Excel, etc., you can imprint variable data such as addresses and names.
– Operating status such as predicted printing time, the amount of used ink can be noticed by e-mail.
When a print job is completed, or ink is running out, or an error condition occurs, you will be notified by an e-mail sent to your e-mail address registered in advance. The events such as “Printing will be finished in 5 minutes ” or “The ink is running out” will be your notification to avoid the stop of printing operation.
– Web update function
Supports the Web update function that has been well-received in RasterLinkPro5.
Program updates and profile downloads can be easily performed via the internet.
