Tuesday 28. August 2012 - The Suzano Report line is among the worldwide leaders and it is the first of all Americas in NGO ranking Fine Paper category, which measures companies' performance and their environmental footprint on paper manufacturing

Suzano Papel e Celulose, through Suzano Report line, has got second place in the WWF Paper Company Environmental Index in the category Fine Paper. “This is the first year we participated in the ranking and we are very proud of the result. It is the recognition of Suzano sustainability investments in our processes and products.” celebrates Carlos Aníbal Fernandes de Almeida Júnior, executive director of Suzano Papel e Celulose. WWF is the bigger worldwide environment network and annually sets up this evaluation.
The WWF Paper Company Environmental Index evaluates the environmental performance of selected companies in the global pulp and paper sector. In 2011, 50 of the largest companies from Fine Paper, Tissue and Packaging industry were invited to answer a questionnaire elaborated by the NGO (Non-Governmental Organization). The questions broach three aspects: forest activity impacts, emissions and impacts from industrial activity and transparency. Check below the result of Fine Paper category:
This is another important evaluation of the practices adopted by Suzano throughout its path. In 2001, the company was the first to produce, in large scale in Brazil, 100% recycled paper. The Reciclato Suzano, also in the cut size version, is composed of 25% of post consumption scraps and 75% of pre-consumption scraps. Part of post consumption scraps used on Reciclato manufacturing are acquired directly from recyclable material collector cooperatives, a fact that contributes to a better sector structuring and an actual cooperators’ income raise. Currently there are more than 80 involved cooperatives, benefiting almost 20,000 people.
Other important difference in Suzano products is the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, one of the most important and recognized environmental certifications worldwide. The company has 100% of its paper and cardboard portfolio certificated. FSC attests the correct management of the forests based on principles and strict criteria that take into account the best practices of a company in relation to its social, environmental and economical aspects. To obtain the certification, a company must offer model behavior standards in these three aspects.
In 2010, the company took another important step becoming the first pulp and paper enterprise in the world and the first in Latin America on all segments having the Carbon Footprint of its products and obtaining the Carbon Reduction Label” certification, given by Carbon Trust. The Alta Alvura, Paperfect and Suzano Report Multiuso paper were certified, besides the pulp, Suzano Pulp. In the following year, another major progress: the release of Suzano Report 360°, a product that has its Carbon Footprint compensated. The releasing is part of the company’s constant search for the best practices to quantify, reduce and compensate the Greenhouse Effect Gases (GHG) emitted by the production process since the forest planting to the final discard by the consumers.
