Sunrise Health Region goes live with UniPrint(TM) Infinity Managed Print Solution

Wednesday 11. July 2012 - Safeguards Patient Confidentiality, Reduces Costs and Improves Productivity with Secure Pull Printing Solution

UniPrint, the leader in printing virtualization, today announced that Sunrise Health Region (SHR) Canada has gone live with UniPrint Infinity, the industry’s first printer-vendor independent managed print solution for any computing environment. Based on UniPrint’s patented Universal Printer Driver and powered by its Virtual Print Infrastructure, UniPrint Infinity serves the needs of SHR’s 3,000 staff members who share 300 printers and have remote access to varied applications with high volume print requirements such as pharmacy, electronic medical records (EMR), payroll and scheduling.
Being one of 13 health regions in the province of Saskatchewan, SHR has a highly transient workforce of nearly 3,000 clinical, professional and administrative workers delivering healthcare services to approximately 60,000 people through its six hospital facilities and 13 long-term care establishments. Its complex IT department includes a Windows Operating System, a Citrix thin-client server farm for centralized application management and distributed IT services that are shared with the other 12 public health regions.
Sheranga Jayasinghe, Director, Information Technology at SHR says, “By its very nature, healthcare creates a number of unique challenges. From our highly mobile workforce to government-mandated patient confidentiality requirements, we needed a printing solution that would safeguard patient data, improve operational efficiency and begin moving our printing capabilities in line with a managed print solution. Additionally, we wanted to minimize incompatibility issues by simplifying our printer driver management and be able to assign printers by department and application to increase security, reduce costs and print more quickly.”
UniPrint Infinity offers SHR a complete solution that simplifies printer management and enables anywhere, anytime, any device secure pull printing across different platforms and offices. UniPrint’s truly universal, PDF-based printer driver negates the need to install multiple manufacturer printer drivers and eliminates incompatibility issues. It also minimizes lengthy installation and certification processes when new clients and printing devices are added to the network. UniPrint’s PrintPAL utility allows users to centrally manage printer assignments per department or per user and map printers based on location. Because UniPrint’s vPad user authentication device is fully compatible with SHR’s existing employee smart cards, it allows a smooth integration of the secure pull printing functionality, which speeds up the roll out process and reduces costs.
“Enterprise printing is far from straightforward and when poorly managed it can decrease productivity and increase IT administration time,” said Arron Fu, VP of Software Development at UniPrint. “UniPrint Infinity provided a cost effective solution for SHR’s complex daily printing requirements that was easy to install and integrate and worked seamlessly with their existing network environment. They can now make changes to their printer fleet with ease, reduce time spent chasing down documents and realize significant and measurable cost savings.”
