RP Media Group: Application Services create powerful IT system structures

ppi Media, a subsidiary of manroland, and CircIT are Application Service Providers to the RP Media Group. In September 2010, the group outsourced the servicing and operation of its IT processes for its newspaper production to third-party service providers. After the first six months, the feedback from all participants is positive.
“Outsourcing our IT services has increased productivity at the Rheinische Post (RP), enabling us to concentrate on our core business. Switching to the new IT system structure and launching the production processes ran smoothly without any problems,” says Stephan Garre, publishing coordinator at Rheinische Post, summing up the first few months of working with the Application Services.
The Application Services
ppi Media’s Application Services are modular and can be individually combined on the basis of service level agreements. ppi Media operates the services for the ppi applications and CircIT operates the services for the infrastructure. At RP, the Application Services are used for the entire range of ppi products. The external support team is responsible for monitoring, checking and analyzing the IT infrastructure and software installations at RP. Above and beyond maintenance, ppi Media and CircIT are responsible for all tasks ranging from application administration to user support.
“ppi Media’s team of eight consultants are available to employees at Rheinische Post 20 hours a day, 7 days a week. With our experience of over 100 installations worldwide, we were already able to identify and fix a number of problems and offer and implement new workflow solutions quickly,” says Norbert Ohl, managing director of ppi Media.
