Merrill Corporation Selects SDL Publishing Solutions to Help Improve Operations and Customer Experience

Friday 14. January 2011 - SDL XPP chosen as publishing component of next generation Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)

SDL (LSE:SDL), the leading provider of Global Information Management solutions, today announced that Merrill Corporation has selected SDL XML Professional Publisher (SDL XPP) as its core publishing system to deliver the high-quality its customers demand of typeset documents. Merrill Corporation is a leading global provider of technology-enabled services for the financial, healthcare, real estate, legal and other corporate markets.
Recognizing the opportunity to further improve operations and its customer experience, Merrill began a search to identify a state-of-the-art publishing system that would meet its existing and future composition requirements including:
· Seamless integration into next generation Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) automated workflow
· Ability to produce the high-quality standards for formatting that have distinguished Merrill’s product and service offerings since the company’s inception
· Unparalleled speed in composition and ability to scale to meet Merrill’s peak period requirements
· Platform based on industry standards to ensure ongoing cost control and solution reliability
· An XML-based processor providing the foundation to meet currently defined SEC filing requirements and phase-in schedules (ASCII, HTML)
To make its selection, Merrill went through an extensive industry search and culled the list to candidates that demonstrated an expertise in solving financial document assembly issues. They then asked each candidate to respond to a complicated set of use cases to measure performance. SDL XPP stood out because it provides the ability to automatically format the complex tables used in financial reporting. In addition, its Web Services API fits well into the Service Oriented Architecture that Merrill has implemented.
“Financial customers require rapid turnaround of their documents, sometimes in just a few minutes,” said Rick Hailey, vice president of IT for Merrill Corporation’s Legal and Financial Transaction (LFTS) business. “We looked for a composition engine that is fast, fits into our automated workflow and scales to handle the high throughput requirements of our peak season. We are confident that SDL XPP provides exactly the foundation we need to continue the tier one performance our customers have come to expect.”
SDL XPP is a standards-based, automated publishing engine that empowers global organizations to produce paged PDF documents for both online and print delivery. In addition to the financial printing market, SDL XPP is used in legal and professional publishing; for scientific, technical and medical journals; and by standards organizations to format and deliver their content. It also serves as a delivery engine for DITA and S1000D technical content.
