Scripps Appoints New Corporate Secretary, Chief Ethics Officer

Thursday 02. December 2010 - Attorneys Julie McGehee and Dave Giles have been appointed to expanded roles by the board of directors of The E.W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP), a Cincinnati-based news and information enterprise.

Effective immediately, McGehee, 48, will add corporate secretary to her existing role as vice president of compensation and benefits. Her new responsibilities include coordinating all activities of the full board and its committees, facilitating interaction between directors and senior management, and managing the annual shareholders meeting.
McGehee joined Scripps in May 2008 to design, plan and implement the company’s benefits and compensation strategies. She previously had been the manager of executive compensation at Duke Energy/Cinergy and corporate secretary at Cincinnati Microwave.
Giles, 49, will continue to serve as vice president and deputy general counsel. As the chief ethics officer, he will be responsible for ethics programs, policies and compliance across the company, and will manage ethics training and investigations.
Since June 2004, Giles has been providing counsel to the company’s nationwide news operations on issues related to the First Amendment, federal regulation, intellectual property, and employment matters.
The appointments follow the retirement at the end of July of long-time corporate secretary and chief ethics officer, Denise Kuprionis.
