SFGate.com Sets Daily Record for Page Views

Thursday 11. November 2010 - Daily Page Views Top 11 Million Due to Coverage of the San Francisco Giants and the 2010 Election

SFGate.com achieved record-setting page views on Nov. 3, 2010 as visitors came to the site for coverage of the San Francisco Giants World Series victory parade and updates on the 2010 election. According to Omniture Site Catalyst, just over 11 million page views were recorded on SFGate.com on Nov. 3. This follows a previous record for page views on Nov. 2, 2010 when 10.2 million pages were viewed.
Total unique visitors to the site reached 1.3 million on Wednesday, an increase of 93% over typical Wednesday traffic. The site attracted 1.5 million unique visitors on Tuesday, up 110% compared to average Tuesday traffic.
“SFGate.com is the most trusted online news source in the Bay Area as evidenced by the increase in unique visitors during a busy news week, but also made clear by the number of pages that each user visited while on the site,” said Michele Slack, vice president of digital media. “SFGate routinely offers a breadth of news, photos, videos and reader interaction not matched by any other local news site. It is especially rewarding when users recognize this by turning to SFGate when important news and events happen.”
SFGate visitors caught up in the excitement of the San Francisco Giants World Series victory accounted for 40% of Wednesday’s page views. The site featured updated stories from the series, information on the victory parade as well as numerous photo galleries and videos.
News related to the 2010 election, including updates on local, statewide and national races, was also popular with SFGate visitors, including reporting and commentary from The Chronicle’s award-winning staff.
SFGate.com consistently ranks as the most-visited news website in the Bay Area. It is also among the Top 10 U.S. newspaper sites in overall traffic, according to Nielsen NetView. SFGate.com users spend an average of 11 minutes on the site per visit.
