Druckzentrum Passau invests in two Kodak Generation News Systems

Thursday 11. November 2010 - Passauer Neue Presse Druck GmbH builds on its long-standing partnership with Kodak for digital platemaking technology

Passauer Neue Presse (PNP) Druck GmbH is to install two new X-speed versions of the Kodak Generation News System. The investment marks the latest chapter in the success story of the two companies. PNP Druck has placed its trust in Kodak’s thermal CTP technology since 2000. The deal was struck at IFRA Expo 2010, which was staged in Hamburg from October 4 to 6.

The two Generation News Systems will replace two of the three Kodak Trendsetter News Platesetters currently used by the company to image Kodak Thermal News Gold Plates. The installation will enable PNP Druck to increase productivity, with each system capable of imaging 250 plates an hour at 1200dpi. Kodak will also supply online plate processors for the new systems, which are scheduled be put into production in Passau before the end of the year.

Druckzentrum Passau is renowned for premium newspaper printing and its specialist production techniques, such as hybrid (newspapers with coldset and heatset components) or heatset printing on coated papers in the newspaper web press. In addition to Passauer Neue Presse, the company also prints various editions of regional dailies, ad journals, as well as numerous commercial products.

“The two KODAK Systems will significantly increase our platemaking capacity and allow us to meet the stringent demands of today’s market,” says Tobias Gleixner, Managing Director of Passauer Neue Presse Druck, who is responsible for the engineering side of the company’s operation. “At the same time, we can continue benefitting from the precision and stability of thermal imaging, which has served us well for many years.”
