IFRA: “House of NewsPrint” fights to save the printed newspaper

Tuesday 28. September 2010 - At this year's IFRAexpo in Hamburg, visitors will get to see more than the traditional exhibits. Printers and publishers will experience the House of NewsPrint. The goal of this unique centrepiece: to reverse opinion and prevent the demise of the printed newspaper.

“We are convinced that the printed newspaper still has meaningful value,” said Ronald Marien, general manager, House of NewsPrint. “Of course we acknowledge the benefits and merit of emerging digital media, yet we truly believe that printed news should survive – for mankind’s sake.” By means of a number of creative and unexpected events we aim to show the general public what a printed newspaper has to offer: it allows readers to slow down and fully focus on the content. Compared to digital media it offers tranquility, depth and opinion. At IFRAexpo, House of NewsPrint will present and discuss its ideas with the industry, both vendors and publishers/printers.
“Many have predicted the end of print, and it now seems that this unsettling future is near,” added Marien. “However, studies show that the consumption of online media is fundamentally changing our brain. Our attention span is deteriorating, our ability to focus is lingering. We need to convince all stakeholders that we can still save the medium, and that we should.”
House of NewsPrint relies on financial support from the newspaper industry and is present at the show in its own stand in hall 3 – stand number 3.333.
