MOSCA STRAPS THINGS UP FOR SHEFFIELD WEB

Monday 03. May 2010 - Sheffield Web, part of Johnston Press, has found specialist strapping from Mosca ideal for the strapping of newspapers at its new state-of-the-art publishing facility.

Johnston Press is one of the top three largest local newspaper publishers in the UK. The ten acre site at Sheffield Web, which became operational in Summer 2006, uses the latest MAN presses for the printing of both titles from Johnston’s extensive range and other major names, such as Metro and the Times Educational Supplement.

Sheffield Web required reliable high-speed strapping equipment that could match the output of the press room, and chose Mosca because of the favourable experience of other sites within the Johnston group. “Our colleagues confirmed that Mosca manufactures very consistent and efficient machines, so we were happy to go with them,” explains Nick Boxall, Managing Director of Sheffield Web.

Mosca has installed eight of its RO-TAI-5 strapping machines. Specially developed for the newspaper industry, the RO-TAI-5 is capable of speeds of up to 36 bundles per minute. It incorporates Mosca’s airless, all-electric technology, which eliminates the need for costly compressed air and its related maintenance requirements. The airless system is an extension of Mosca’s brushless motors, direct drive technology, which has already removed the need for a large number of mechanical components to ensure long-term reliability and reduced maintenance costs.

“We have been using the Mosca RO-TAI-5s for over a year now, and the machines perform extremely well,” comments Nick Boxall. “They do everything we could have wanted from them.”

Mosca equipment is available in the UK from its wholly owned subsidiary Mosca Direct of Cotgrave, Nottingham.
