Offset Printing

World Premier: Roland 900, XXL Perfector

Wednesday 21. April 2010 - Himmer to inaugurate the world’s first perfecting press in format 8

Final countdown: the world’s first format 8 sheetfed offset press with a perfecting system is about to start production at Himmer AG, Augsburg, Germany. The customer specified very demanding press acceptance tests which the ROLAND 900, XXL passed with flying colours.

The perfecting system of the ROLAND 900, XXL with a maximum sheet size of 1310 x 1870 mm revolutionises sheetfed offset printing: new efficiency benchmarks can now be set for print production and subsequent finishing. This perfecting press can print 64 A4 pages in one pass. For trouble-free finishing, the ROLAND InlineSlitter in the delivery divides the sheets into two straight-edged stacks that can be processed in standard folding machines.

Himmer AG is one of the leading book printers in Southern Germany and the expectations it has for production with the new press are correspondingly high. Now the advantages perfecting offers are also available in format 8: time saving through printing both sides in one pass without two makeready and wash-up processes and without de-powdering, as well as simplified logistics and organisation. It also saves space as there are no semi-finished jobs waiting for the second side to be printed. Organisational advantages include the fact that there is no need to schedule separate printing of the second side. Finally, there is no printing quality compromise with the ROLAND 900, XXL perfecting press and so far at Himmer the results are promising: the company has been very impressed with the machine’s performance when printing demanding formats such as a furniture catalogue on matt-coated art paper.
