KODAK TRENDSETTER Platesetters Enhanced to Meet Higher Performance Needs and Changing Customer Requirements

Monday 25. January 2010 - Committed to providing solutions for printers of all types and sizes, Kodak redesigned and upgraded its line of KODAK TRENDSETTER Platesetters, allowing customers to benefit from increased uptime and higher productivity.

A trusted technology for more than 12 years, the TRENDSETTER Platesetters now have the following additional capabilities:

Updated hardware and software, extending the field-proven platform life cycle
Improved reliability and serviceability, providing more uptime
Compact footprint, allowing for an efficient use of space
All new TRENDSETTER Platesetters are now equipped with the KODAK SQUARESPOT Thermal Imaging Head, which features auto focus and thermal compensation, and also enables machine-to-machine compatibility. The standard imaging head is enhanced to offer AM screening of 250 lpi or 450 lpi and 10-micron KODAK STACCATO Screening with the QUANTUM Platesetter configuration. For some configurations and speeds, the imaging head provides 25 percent more power than the previous version, allowing faster imaging of nonprocess plates.

The upgraded platesetters provide the same high levels of process stability, accuracy, repeatability and quality that printers have come to expect from Kodak’s award-winning technology, and continue to be an affordable choice for printers seeking reliable CTP solutions. Customers save on costs through fewer remakes and less time adjusting for variables.

Mainline Printing of Topeka, Kan., recently installed a new KODAK TRENDSETTER 800 Platesetter, and is enjoying the benefits. “The new platesetter integrated seamlessly into our existing production environment, and faster throughput has really enhanced our productivity,” said Van Reichert, Prepress Supervisor, Mainline Printing. “We’ve used KODAK Solutions for many years and have a great relationship with the company, so this new addition made perfect business sense for us.”

Mainline Printing offers a wide variety of services, from general commercial work and labels to trading cards and even holographic printing for a loyal customer base that demands the highest quality. “The TRENDSETTER 800 Platesetter keeps us very competitive,” added Reichert.

Enhancements were made to the KODAK TRENDSETER 400 Platesetter, KODAK TRENDSETTER 800 Platesetter, KODAK TRENDSETTER NX Imager and KODAK TRENDSETTER NEWS Platesetter. With the TRENDSETTER 800 and TRENDSETTER NEWS Platesetters, a new automation option, Auto Unload, is available that automatically unloads plates to the processor. In addition, the semi-automatic model is about 20 percent smaller than previous models, while the autoloader version is approximately 30 percent smaller, saving on work space.

“Serving a broad range of customers from small to large commercial, flexo packaging and newspaper printers, we are committed to being on the cutting-edge of technology and investing in CTP platforms that provide the best solutions possible for our customers,” said Rob Fischmann, General Manager, Output Devices and Prepress Service. “Our new TRENDSETTER Platesetters will allow our customers to enjoy industry benchmark printed output and image stability with a smaller footprint and even greater product reliability.”

TRENDSETTER Platesetters sold after Jan. 15, 2010, will carry the new design. Kodak will also continue to support the installed base of current TRENDSETTER Platesetters in the field.
