HP today announced that Marsh Labels Ltd, of Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, has bought an HP Indigo press ws4050 and the first Digicon Lite converting unit from A B Graphic International.

Marsh Labels is a family-owned business specialising in hot foil labels, but also offering litho, flexo printed labels, primarily in short runs. These services are provided to a broad customer base ranging from private individuals to agencies and print-buyers for blue-chip companies and brands.

“We have handled digital label jobs for customers for a number of years, but subcontracted the printing,” said Gary Burnley, director, Marsh Labels. “Having our own press and finishing capabilities means that we control the process, the production and ensure the quality.”

In addition to hot foil stamping, the company has also established a niche in the short-run printing of barcodes. Its new HP Indigo press, due to be installed and fully operation by November, in time for the peak season, will be able to handle barcodes, batch numbers and sell-by dates using its variable data capability.

Marsh Labels’ HP Indigo press has a seven-colour capability, including white, which is of particular use when printing transparent substrates.

The Digicon Lite converting unit from HP partner A B Graphic International offers small label printers a compact and powerful entry-level solution providing flood varnishing, UV curing, semi-rotary die-cutting, slitting and rewinding. In addition to these, the unit supplied to Marsh Labels includes a lamination feature. Bringing all these functions in-house in a single space-saving unit has further facilitated the company’s move to digital production.

“There is no doubt that this is a big step for a small company,” Burnley said. “The combination of the HP Indigo press and the Digicon Lite gives us not only the ability to meet our customers’ growing requirements for digital print, but also the opportunity to grow our own business by providing a more complete and competitive service.”
