Monday 12. October 2009 - Print ’09 Chicago, Illinois - Versatile Productivity is the theme as Bobst Group North America (Booth #3605) showcases the latest in diecutting, blanking, embossing, folding-gluing and inline Braille application technology.

Featured on display, and running live production demonstrations were the BOBST EXPERTCUT 106 LER and COMMERCIAL 106 Autoplaten diecutters and EXPERTFOLD 110 A-2 folder-gluer with HANDYFEEDER and ACCUBRAILLE rotary embossing device. Additional offerings featured and discussed at the BOBST booth included the BOBST InTouch online ordering system, the Super Strip System, the all new ANGLE LOCK Receiver System along with a full range of finishing solutions and productivity enhancing products for commercial printers and folding carton converters.

Live Demonstrations
Live production demonstrations took place throughout the show upon request. During the demonstrations, visitors witnessed the production of four unique products that address a range of capabilities available to commercial printing and folding carton production. These products include:

Pocket Folder – A typical job for the commercial printer or trade finisher, the pocket folder features 16 pt. stock and a two-up layout that is die-cut, creased and embossed in a single pass on the COMMERCIAL 106 Autoplaten diecutter. The final operation takes place on the EXPERTFOLD 110 A-2 folder-gluer where folding and gluing creates two interior pockets and finishes the product.

WONDERFOLD, Crash-lock bottom carton – Demonstrates the EXPERTCUT 106 LER Autoplaten diecutter’s ability to feed, register, die-cut, blank, strip and stack at high speed and in a single pass. The New Super Strip System and New ANGLE LOCK Receiver System demonstrates superior stripping, blanking and quick set-up capabilities.

Paris Box, Crash-lock bottom carton – The first operation on this product demonstrates the versatility of the COMMERCIAL 106 to die-cut a wide range of materials at high production speeds. The second and third operations, folding and gluing and embossing Braille on the carton, are completed at production speeds in a single pass on EXPERTFOLD 110 A-2 CS with the optional ACCUBRAILLE device.

#10 Envelope – This product highlights the COMMERCIAL 106’s ability to run (feed, die-cut strip and stack) lightweight paper with speed and precision. The paper used in this demonstration is representative of common materials used by commercial printers. The COMMERCIAL 106 was specifically designed to run lightweight papers, but performs equally well when running solid board and micro-flute corrugated paperboard.

Meet the Performers
The EXPERTCUT 106 LER comes from a long pedigree of high precision, high speed Autoplaten diecutters. The machine on display is equipped with Power Register – an intelligent sheet introduction system which uses photo-electric cell technology to determine the exact position of the sheet and then align it to within ±.01″ (0.25mm) of the target. The machine is also configured with the BOBST Quick Lock chase system for fast change-over, an inline blanking station equipped with the AngleLock Receiver System and a stripping station with the new Super Strip feature. The diecutter can run sheets up to 41 ¾” by 30″, has a top speed of 9,000 sheets per hour and can cut paper (.004″ min), solid board (.030″ max) and micro-flute corrugated board (0.80″ max). This particular EXPERTCUT is equipped with the BOBST C.U.B.E. control unit for faster change-over and precision adjustment and gives the operator the ability to access and manage a wide range of machine and job data, plus HIGHWAY VISTA to extract current and historical production data.

The BOBST COMMERCIAL 106 is specifically designed to run lightweight papers and has the capability to run materials from .004″ to .160″ including a wide range of paper, solid board and corrugated paperboard. The diecutter can run sheets up to 41 ¾” by 29 1/8″ allowing it to accept sheets from the largest 40″ and newer 41″ printing. The COMMERCIAL 106 has a top speed of 7,700 sheets per hour. It also has the capability to register sheets from both sides for greater versatility.

The EXPERTFOLD 110 A-2 CS with HANDYFEEDER and ACCUBRAILLE is one of the most versatile folder-gluers available today. The EXPERTFOLD can fold products from small pharmaceutical boxes, to pocket folders and CD sleeves, to large cereal boxes and virtually anything in between. The A-2 configuration allows the folder-gluer to run crash-lock as well as straight line boxes. Its modular design allows the folder-gluer to be configured to meet your current requirements as well as expand with your business. The ability to run a wide range of materials including carton board, corrugated and synthetics provides solution for an extensive variety of products and markets. The EXPERTFOLD on display is also equipped with a HANDYFEEDER which maintains consistent feed height for consistent and accurate blank introduction and the ACCUBRAILLE embossing device which allows inline BRAILLE embossing at full production speeds. The EXPERTFOLD is available in manual, Computer Set (CS) and Computer Set Motorized (CSM) control configurations and has a maximum speed of 1,476 ft/min (450 m/min).
