Océ JetStream 3300 offers industry’s fastest inkjet speed for 30″ web production

Wednesday 23. September 2009 - New system positions customers to succeed with more applications and greater productivity

Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, today announces the debut of the Océ JetStream 3300 during the Home of Color II event, providing the industry’s fastest inkjet printing on a 30″ wide web. With a speed of 492 feet per minute (150 meters per minute), the Océ JetStream 3300 system delivers the highest productivity in its class.

Continued growth of Océ JetStream series benefits market

Océ now offers two models in the Océ JetStream 30″ web series: the Océ JetStream 3300 system and the Océ JetStream 2800 system running at 427 fpm (130 mpm). The wider print width allows customers to print applications in a single pass boosting overall printing productivity while reducing total cost of ownership (TCO). Both systems are available as “black only” versions with field upgrades to a full CMYK color configuration and can be equipped with a fifth printhead for additional colors.

Océ JetStream productivity and adaptability give commercial printers powerful resources to compete in a challenging marketplace. Océ JetStream users benefit from maximum productivity, color flexibility and raw speed for TransPromo, direct marketing, triggered mailings, check printing and other critical applications. The versatile Océ JetStream platform is also helping companies of all kinds make the transition to digital printing for applications once the domain of offset, such as books and newspapers. With the flexibility to support a wider range of color applications, print professionals can expand their services – and keep them affordable.

“With the introduction of the Océ JetStream 3300 system, we reconfirm our commitment to inkjet technology as another evolutionary step within our JetStream family,” says Sebastian Landesberger, Executive Vice President, Océ Production Printing. “We are very happy to announce that the family is growing and expanding to new levels of capability, for our customers to take on more diverse types of jobs and handle them in higher productivity and efficiency than ever before. Thanks to Océ’s proven family upgrade concept, customers are able to plan their business growth strategies for producing profitable full-color jobs on a long-term basis while at the same time immediately taking advantage of the cost and speed efficiencies enabled by digital inkjet printing.”

Upgradability to maximize investment protection

In line with the Océ commitment to investment protection, the Océ JetStream family offers a growth path from monochrome to full-color configurations and more, ensuring complete flexibility to meet long-term business goals. All models are available as “black only” versions with field upgrades available to a full CMYK color configuration. An optional fifth color lets customers add specialty inks along with their CMYK printing. Combined with an Océ PRISMA front end server, Océ JetStream printing systems deliver best-in-class productivity through uninterrupted, highly automated production workflow.

By building a production workflow based on the proven core technology of the Océ JetStream series, customers gain a full, integrated inkjet strategy that can grow with them as they pursue new opportunities.

Along with the same ink and inkjet heads, the Océ JetStream 3300 system is based on Océ DigiDot inkjet technology and SRA MP controller architecture of the Océ JetStream series. Consistent use of common components allows quick time-to-market for new options and delivers high reliability, durability and uptime. Océ DigiDot printing enables the highest output quality and productivity with variable dot size for added flexibility. The scalable Océ SRA MP controller offers full engine speed, variable data printing in AFP/IPDS workflow, with built-in data integrity, error recovery and full-color management. It also includes the Adobe PDF print engine 2 to allow efficient “white paper” printing to produce monochrome variable data concurrently with a full-color form. This one-pass printing efficiency results in reduced waste and storage costs, more productive workflow and lower TCO.

New dimension of productivity for digital book and newspaper printing

Newspaper publishers, book manufacturers and other traditional printers struggle with rising costs and shifting market conditions, and the Océ JetStream 3300 system gives them the ability to adopt more practical business models. Digital book printing is being transformed as publishers and printers move from offset to digital production. With the new speed and wider print width of the Océ JetStream 3300 system, more books can be produced in less time and with less waste. For example, the system can print a typical 5×7″, 150-page pocket book pack in less than 0.75 seconds. The powerful SRA MP controller rips a complete book upfront, then ripped books can be print in copy mode in full engine speed. With the wide web Océ JetStream systems, customers can print 12- and 16-page book signatures and for 2-up tabloid newspapers in their original formats. This maximizes production efficiency and solidifies digital production as a viable alternative to offset book printing.

For industries like newspapers, the transition from traditional offset printing to high-speed digital production is essential for long-term economic strength. As publishers seek effective yet affordable ways to reach and maintain readership, the faster Océ JetStream 3300 system makes it possible to create hyperlocalized editions and individualized issues that can compete with other delivery channels. The wider web also offers the advantage of printing of newspapers in their original formats, avoiding steps and expense to modify applications.

During the Home of Color II event the Océ JetStream 3300 is demonstrated for the first time proving its versatility with a variety of extra wide full color, duplex applications including 2-up tabloid newspaper, 6-up pocket book and poster printing.

First shipments of the Océ JetStream 3300 systems are planned for the first quarter of 2010.
