MICR printing: another breakthrough from Impika

Thursday 10. September 2009 - Impika’s flexible « All in One » digital printing system now includes an MICR inkjet function

Impika has always applied its technical know-how to satisfying the needs of the market. Back in 2003, Impika pioneered high-performance inkjet printing for industrial applications.

Number One in industrial inkjet printing
Today, Impika’s track record for innovation continues with the addition of an MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) inkjet function to its « iPrint » range of continuous feed digital printers.

In conventional printing, producing documents that contain security information (cheques, letter/cheques and other sensitive documents) is a complicated task, calling for high standards of quality and reliability on a discontinuous print cycle. Because the different data streams (fixed, variable and secure data) require the use of pre-printed rolls (offset etc.), printing is a multi-stage process. Managing the supply and storage of these media is a costly business. Meanwhile, the various operations that need to be carried out in this type of print process (set-up, monitoring, etc.) increase margins of error and compromise reliability, while taking up valuable time and energy.

Security printing expertise
Impika has acquired a wealth of experience in security printing, in particular by developing systems for printing identity documents. This experience – in tandem with solid technological expertise – has led to a revolutionary new printing system: all data streams can now be printed digitally in a single print-run.

With Impika’s iPrint range, it is now possible to print fixed and variable data in four colours, along with secure data in MICR (E-13B and CMC-7 formats) – all in continuous feed on a white roll. To preserve the environment, its MICR ink uses the same water base as the colour inks. In both technological and economic terms, this innovative « All in One » printing system is a genuine achievement, delivering significant gains in reliability, productivity and quality, attracting widespread interest on the market.

« All in One » flexibility
« The iPrint range – with its powerful AFP-IPDS controller for managing variable data and the latest generation Panasonic printheads – has the flexibility to handle a broad range of printing applications, including an MICR function. It is also capable of very high quality colour printing (up to 1,200 dpi) at very high print speeds (up to 152m/min). This printing system is just the first in a series of innovations which Impika is going to make available to its customers, » says Paul Morgavi, Impika’s CEO.

Impika Advanced Printing
Impika has already supplied a taste of developments to come with a new option available on its MICR printing system: the security level – a crucial aspect today – can be increased by adding either a special colour or fluids with reactive or electronic properties.
