Sri Lankan printer and publisher ANCL (Associated Newspaper Ceylon Limited) successfully went into production with a new Goss Magnum 4 press earlier this year. The investment was made to increase page and color capacity at ANCL’s Lake House publishing facility in Colombo.

The single-width Goss Magnum 4 press is configured as one four-high tower and one mono unit with a folder providing quarter-fold capability to print a wide variety of newspaper and commercial formats. With a 578 mm cut-off, the press is capable of running at speeds up to 40,000 cph.

“As one of South-East Asia’s largest newspaper publishers, ANCL was looking for a press that could combine flexibility with ease-of-use and high-quality, reliable operation,” comments Peter Kirwan, vice president of Asia Pacific newspaper sales for Goss International. “With over 40,000 similar units installed and in operation around the world, the Magnum 4 press can provide all these things for printers for whom flexibility and high net productivity is key.”

ANCL publishes a large number of national and regional newspapers in the Sinhala, Tamil and English languages. They include three daily, three weekend and five weekly newspapers, plus two monthly and three annual publications. Flagship English title Daily News, Sri Lanka’s national newspaper since 1918, was the first Sri Lankan newspaper to be published online. The company also has a commercial division that prints books, telephone directories, government publications and magazines for newspaper supplements.
