Intensifying the Zoning for “Generalanzeiger” with New Mailroom from Muller Martini

With two ProLiner and CoLiner inserting systems, the Barleben printing center is intensifying its insert work for the “Generalanzeiger”.

Wednesday 15. July 2009 - The Barleben printing center near Magdeburg (Germany) has increased flexibility when sorting inserts for the bi-weekly "Generalanzeiger" thanks to a new mailroom from Muller Martini. As well as two ProLiner and CoLiner inserting systems, the new solution also comprises FlexiRoll buffers for the independent operation of printing press and mailroom.

The Barleben printing center not only produces the daily newspaper “Volksstimme”, which is printed six times per week (18 regional editions with a print run of around 216,000 copies), but also the advertizing journal “Generalanzeiger”. This is produced twice per week: on Wednesdays with a print run of around 517,000 copies, and on Sundays with around 640,000 copies, and generally contains between 7 and 15 inserts. For the first time, a solution from Muller Martini was selected to extend the existing mailroom in order to intensify regional zoning for insert work.

Comprehensive Mailroom Solution
In addition to two ProLiner modular inserting systems with ten feeders (with options for expansion), the system comprises two CoLiner precollectors with four feeders (also with options for expansion), six NewsStack package creators, six TABA F route address topsheet feeders with thermal printer, a NewsSorter package separator, two NewsGrip-A conveyors and two FlexiRoll buffers with six docking stations. These allow the rolling of pre-inserted products and delivered inserts. The Mailroom Production Control (MPC) system is used to control the mailroom – making it considerably easier to control complex insert products.

The ProLiner concept was an important aspect when the Barleben printing center opted for the solution from Muller Martini. The (offline) production of the “Generalanzeiger” is sometimes staggered and the newspapers are rolled on FlexiRoll between printing and finishing.
