The Forum-Fargo, ND completes Harland Simon upgrade

Monday 29. June 2009 - Harland Simon has successfully completed its first MediaMAN press Controls upgrade; the project was finished in May with no loss to Fargo’s single press operation.

The project included replacement of their obsolete MAVO ink/damp controls, as well as their main d.c. drives, on-unit Ink PCBs, register controls and ink drives with industry standard, off-the-shelf solutions; all controlled from two PRIMA 6000 Desk. Furthermore, Harland Simon’s industry leading PRIMA MS and RIPSet for scheduling, ink presetting, monitoring and reporting was installed.

Mike Crabtree, Production Director for The Forum commented, “The installation went extremely well and the Harland Simon Technicians were very flexible in working around our print schedule. Another significant part of this upgrade is that a lot of the components in this system are off-the-self items that can be purchased and supported locally”

Crabtree further went on to comment, “…‘the system is real user friendly’ the press crew caught on quickly to the new controls. As for the savings in waste and ink it’s a little too soon to say but the new system found, with its diagnostic software, that a lot of our potentiometers for circ and side lay and ink key positions needed to be replaced. Once these are all changed out and after Harland Simons returns later this month to follow up on the installation and make a few minor adjustments I’m confident we will be able to capitalize on the savings this system has to offer.”
