Monday 08. June 2009 - SVTWO, one of the most notable names on the UK print scene, has announced a major investment in the latest digital technology, with the installation of two HP Indigo 5500 seven-colour presses at its south-east London base.

The new units, which came on stream on June 1st, have been installed alongside the company’s two Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 litho presses and two Xerox DocuColor units to offer clients – who include FTSE 100 companies, leading names in the luxury retail sector, the insurance business and financial services – the speed, flexibility and short run cost-effectiveness of digital print combined with the highest quality.

Simultaneously the company has made a substantial investment in finishing facilities to guarantee a complete service with fast turnaround from artwork to dispatch. Die cutting and creasing, folding, perforating, laminating, gluing, make up and envelope conversion capabilities are all now available on site, alongside a range of binding options that include PUR, perfect and wiro binding, plus saddle stitching.

Sales Director at SVTWO Duncan Summers is confident that the company will see a rapid return on its investment. “Since its foundation, SVTWO has planned each investment with care, ensuring that there is a justifiable business case. We have gained significant experience in digital print with the DocuColor machines, which are dedicated to our unique offering for the insurance market, and now feel that the time is right to broaden our offering with the installation of the two HP Indigo presses. With some of the world’s most prestigious brands on our books, SVTWO can afford no compromise on quality and we’re confident that these presses will produce work of a standard to satisfy even the most discerning client.”

Alongside rapid turnaround, which in SVTWO’s case is underpinned by full in-house finishing capabilities, one of the key advantages of digital is, says Summers, the potential it offers for personalisation. “As marketing becomes ever more niche, demand for bespoke pieces is on the rise,” he says. “The possibilities are very exciting and almost endless – but with this capability comes a responsibility to protect personal data.

“There have been a number of high profile cases of data loss or mis-management recently and the concerns about identity theft are very real. In addition to quality and service, our clients have a right to expect that their job will be handled securely. Having worked with the insurance sector for a number of years, we understand that this is fundamental and are currently undergoing assessment for accreditation to the ISO 27001 secure data management standard.”

The HP Indigo press 5500 is extremely versatile, suitable for items such as direct mail, annual reports, business cards, mailers, bespoke printed products, invitations and brochures, where shorter run lengths make digital the most cost-effective option. “The presses are already busy and the order book is filling up fast, underlining just how much our clients appreciate the additional choice and value we can offer thanks to this investment,” concludes Summers.

The HP Indigo press 5500 supports 68 ppm full colour, 136 ppm in two-colour and 272 ppm monochrome, regardless of media type and thickness. It offers screens of up to 230 lines per inch, with a print area of 12.48 x 17.7″ (317 x 450mm) on stock weighing up to 400gsm. With seven colours on board, the press is capable of handling standard four-colour process printing, HP IndiChrome six-colour printing and genuine photo quality printing. It has special and spot colour capabilities, including photo inks – light cyan and light magenta, digital matte and brand colours.
